Nickname for Astrid

We have a four month old girl called Astrid. We took a while to choose her name but really love it now (although are aware it’s quite a ‘marmite’ choice!). However, it seems quite a grown up name for a baby and we’re struggling to come up with any good nicknames that stick. I usually think that nicknames shouldn’t be forced but I’d be interested to hear any suggestions. Thank you!

We have an Astrid who is now 4, we call her Stridelbug, Strids (there's a very wild river in Yorkshire called the river Strid and she is wild haha), mostly we just call her Astrid though :)

Some great suggestions so far, thank you! Sassa is lovely and Buzz is so sweet, we do call her our little Astridnaught 😆

I know two Astrids - one doesn’t have a nickname, and the other goes by Asti.

@WhoopItUp
Jan calles her baby Astrid but the party planning committee get the spelling wrong and get all the M&Ms printed with Astird.

Gorgeous name. I know one who gets called Astie

NoJuliana · 27/09/2022 21:06

Pippi

It’s lovely.

Short of calling her Astra, which is a different name, there isn’t one. But I think that’s one of its charms - stick with it.

We have a little Astrid too 🙌🏼 and apart from silly pet names used by us she goes by her full name. Sassa is a sweet nn though 😊

sopeas · 10/11/2022 13:24

Gorgeous name 🌟 I love the suggestion of Sassa!

I like Aster for a nickname because I’m rather fond of the flower

We have a fifteen year old Astrid who is Lash at home (it was one of those baby brother couldn’t say her name things). It’s stuck since she was about four. I think she secretly loves it.

Whoops - posted this twice! 😩

Fedupsequin · 10/11/2022 20:09

Lovely name. I’d go Asti.

CanYouFeelMyHeart · 10/11/2022 20:36

You say Asti, I hear Spumante

Cw112 · 10/11/2022 20:41

Azzie?

AliceMcK · 10/11/2022 21:47

A nickname dosnt have to be associated with the actual name.

All three of mine have nicknames they have “earnt”. 1 is just something DH and I used when referring to her and has kinda stuck, another is based on something funny she has always done, third is based on noises she made as a baby.

Both DH and I also have nicknames, mine was something my grandmother gave me, nothing to do with my name but a very common Irish nickname. DHs is a random word/name he got when his younger cousin couldnt pronounce his name properly when they were kids.

stealthbanana · 10/11/2022 21:49

I have an astrid and we just call her Asti which is objectively weird but super cute.

Chickpea17 · 10/11/2022 21:52

Our daughter is called Astrid she was 4 in September we called her this because we loved the name so much. Never felt the need to shorten it or give her a nickname

Moonchild18 · 10/11/2022 21:52

Oh Astrid is a beautiful name! I like the suggestion of Sassa and also Asti

wigglycactus · 10/11/2022 21:53

My friend's sister is Astrid and she's known as Asti as well, I love it - great name choice OP!
