Looking for a boys name beginning with W and at the moment Woody is top of our list.
Do you like the name Woody for a boy?

Nope, makes me think 'Morning Wood'!

Yes. Might as well go for Stiffy..

I have to wonder what your Christian names are. Wow. So rude some of you. Be kind hey.

It’s a name forum, the purpose is to express honest opinions on names. #Beingkind isn’t especially useful, apart from being a vomit inducing cliche.

Dotcheck · 25/09/2022 00:08

Naming him Woody would bookend his time in utero quite nicely 😂

I quite like it though

TheBirdintheCave · 25/09/2022 00:10

I don't see this as a name. A nickname, sure, but not an actual given name.

largeprintagathachristie · 25/09/2022 00:10

Toy Story
Or an errection
So it’s a no from me

CloudSunLeavesCoud · 25/09/2022 00:19

God no. Poor child

TowerStork · 25/09/2022 00:19

I know a dog called Woody. It's a good name for a dog.

If you want it as a nickname fine but I'd give the child a better official name for life

Yep.. I know a very cute little fox-terrier who it suits to a T .

Spanielsarepainless · 25/09/2022 09:04

Unless your surname is Woodpecker, I would choose something else.

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 25/09/2022 09:09

I actually love it!

eurochick · 25/09/2022 09:10

Just go the whole hog and call him Penis.

EveSix · 25/09/2022 09:11

Of course. It's lovely.

hugefanofcheese · 25/09/2022 09:11

It's a nickname, go for Edward if you must.

Is it rude to point out that a name has an unpleasant slang meaning? Surely parents should be fully informed about a name's connotations before choosing it.

FloorWipes · 25/09/2022 09:14

I also know a dog called Woody and I met another dog called Woody to so maybe a common dog name.

rainydaysandcake · 25/09/2022 09:30

No not unless us was a nickname

Pemba · 25/09/2022 09:44

No, no, no. Nickname only (if you absolutely must) . Sounds ridiculous.

It is quintessentialy American and surely a bit dated now. Plus sexual connotations. Plus Woody Allen who has a questionable reputation, rightly or wrongly.

So I just wouldn't. Poor kid.

Pemba · 25/09/2022 09:50

It is quite amusing that someone who uses the 'be kind' mantra is simultaneously old fashioned enough to think everyone in the world has a 'Christian' name.

This is a section where people ask for posters' opinions BEFORE they choose a name. So opinions are given, what's wrong with that?

BeaLola · 25/09/2022 09:59

I'm intrigued as to why the name has to start with a W

I don't like Woody. Tried to think of a W name I would like ... but can't - all I could think of were

Walter
William
Wilson
Wyatt
Wesley
Warren
Wayne
Waylon
Walker
Weston

Sorry

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 25/09/2022 12:16

Zoe Ball's son is called Woody.

Needmorelego · 25/09/2022 12:27

@IdisagreeMrHochhauser yes and I remember thinking "poor kid" when he was born (isn't he about 20 now?).

IdisagreeMrHochhauser · 25/09/2022 12:27

Following in his father's footsteps and DJing. Doesn't seem to be doing him any harm.

There's a big difference between a celebrity child being called Woody and an ordinary one though. The inherent "coolness" of the parent(s) carries them.

it's a dreadful name for a child.

SirChenjins · 25/09/2022 12:34

No - it’s one of those ‘parents trying to be too cool for school’ names like Spike, plus stiffy/boner

SpicePearl · 25/09/2022 15:34

Bit confused at multiple people saying it’s okay to have it as a nickname but not as actual name? Why is that?
