I love the names George and Etta/Ettie for a girl and came across the name Georgette and I haven’t found any other threads about it. What sibling names would you pair it up with? And what would you she for middle names?

I used to know a giorgetta (Italian descent I believe). Lovely name!

Bluevelvetsofa · 24/09/2022 16:14

Georgette Heyer was the pen name of an author who wrote Regency romances.

DontMakeMeShushYou · 24/09/2022 16:17

Just makes me think of fabric. Sorry!

CakeCrumbs44 · 24/09/2022 16:17

Yes why not, it's a nice name. I also like Georgina and Georgiana.

Never even heard of the fabric. It's not really a negative association though.

tickticksnooze · 24/09/2022 16:19

Sounds a bit like it should be a 60s girlband - The Georgettes...

I don't really like it, sorry.

tickticksnooze · 24/09/2022 16:20

It's quite close to courgette too...

Ship · 24/09/2022 16:21

i also think of courgette

Luredbyapomegranate · 24/09/2022 16:32

I’m not mad about it - it’s very 50s retro but not in a very good way - like Hughette, Josette, Colette, Yvette (although Annette is alright)

I love Georgia and Georgiana though

Harriet, Henrietta, Juliet, Violet, Margaret ad plausibly Marguerite also give you Etta

nannybeach · 24/09/2022 16:35

Fabric looks nice but is rough scratchy and a bugger to sew.

jerkchicken · 24/09/2022 16:37

I think of fabric too! I prefer Georgina personally

toastofthetown · 24/09/2022 16:38

I really don't like Georgette. It feels like such a forced feminisation (up there with Archibaldina). Georgette also brings to mind hippos, but can't find anything on Google so that one might just be me. That said, I don't think it's unusable, just my preference. I dislike every -ette name except Odette.

QuimReaper · 24/09/2022 16:39

I know an Ettie who's a Henrietta. Much nicer than Georgette in my opinion, but I don't hate it.

It's like chiffon but not as fine. I, probably unfairly, associate it with being old-fashioned and slightly cheap 😅

Georgette Heyer was the pen name of an author who wrote Regency romances.

It was her real name. Though she kept it for writing after she married, naturally. Her married surname was Rougier.

LimeCheesecake · 24/09/2022 16:48

If I met someone with a baby girl called Georgette, I’d assume her mother was a Georgette Heyer fan. This would instantly make me warm to you, as although I’ve only read one of her books and not felt the need to read anymore, every woman I’ve met who’s a Georgette Heyer fan has been very lovely and kind.

justasking111 · 24/09/2022 16:50

Never had a daughter but had picked the name Georgina from childhood. I know a Gina her mum is Italian. Never met a Georgette. I would think about how the name will be shortened by some folks

SillyFood · 24/09/2022 16:52

Georgina is lovely for a girl or Colette, Lettice, Henrietta if you’re wanting to call her Etta/ Ettie. Georgetta sounds like a type of sofa to me for some reason.

WildfellAnne · 24/09/2022 16:54

I thought first of the fabric and then of Georgette Heyer, whose books have quite a following. I think there are better names.

FavouriteDogMug · 24/09/2022 16:56

I'm reading a book by Georgette Heyer right now, Georgette was her real name btw only she used her maiden name professionally. I like the name as she is a favourite author of mine and it reminds me of her, but it is a bit unusual.

mathanxiety · 24/09/2022 17:10

It has a 50s vibe to it. I sort of like it. It sounds like the name of a feisty but elegant girl, in a French way.

For sisters I'd go for -
Vita
Stella
Vera
Rosemary
Josephine
Maxine
Daphne
Claudine

Brothers -
Adrian
Marcus
Nicholas
Christopher/ Kit
Felix
Roland
Louis
Myles

I know a lovely Georgette who's in her 40s. She always goes by George.

user1492757084 · 25/09/2022 15:50

Georgette Luella
Georgette Sofie
Georgette Mae
Georgette Felicity
Georgina Harriet

user1492757084 · 25/09/2022 15:52

Georgette and Maisie
Georgette and Philomena

ofwarren · 25/09/2022 15:53

I think I sounds nice. It does rhyme with courgette but I never thought of that till someone else said it. Not that it matters anyway as Lily rhymes with silly and that's a perfectly nice name that's used frequently.
