Still not got a baby name yet & wondering what everyone’s favourite is from our list. They are all quiet similar styles.

Cora
Dahlia
Violet
Imogen
Thea

The only ones I really like are Violet and Imogen.

Awrite · 19/09/2022 09:31

I love:
Cora
Thea
Imogen

Like:
Violet

Don't like:
Dahlia

KirstenBlest · 19/09/2022 10:19

Cora - not keen
Dahlia - Dail-ya or Dahl-ya? - not keen
Violet - ok - runner up
Imogen - ok - best of bunch
Thea - dislike, too many Theos

89redballoons · 19/09/2022 12:18

Imogen is my favourite out of those. I know a few and they're all quite different people but the name still suits them. Can be Immie, Imo or even Jen I suppose, depending on what suits. I like how it's feminine but not overly cutesy.

Cora is quite nice too.

Violet reminds me of violent.

Thea is nice but would sound like Fear in some accents.

Dahlia is my least favourite, but I do like Delilah.

coconuthead · 19/09/2022 12:22

I know a Cora she's super cool so it's Cora for me the Violet

coconuthead · 19/09/2022 12:22

Then*

dalisdrippingclock · 19/09/2022 12:24

Lots of little Violets around at the moment, but if you don't mind that, it's cute. Cora is lovely.

Fivebeanchilli · 19/09/2022 14:20

Thea is far and away my favourite.
Imogen, Violet and Cora are next for me.
I don't like Dahlia at all.

Stop with the "spelling mistake" for Imogen.
It's a very old name. It pre-dates mumsnet, standardised spelling, printing presses, and widespread literacy.
The sounds nn and m are commonly switched - compare Amabel and Annabel.
The explanation "Inno - gen" meaning "beloved child" is gorgeous. It's a timeless classic.

Yeah, we know. It should be Innogen.

Highfivemum · 19/09/2022 14:37

I know 3 Imogen’s at my DS school and the teacher called them all Cora 1 2 and 3 … I know a Cora who I went to school with and she was a bully so personally I don’t like the name.
Violet is becoming increasing popular.
I like Dahlia best.
mall the best

You are clearly ignorant if you think that about Imogen. It’s a classic name and she is a character in a Shakespeare play as well.

Why do you say timoteigirl is clearly ignorant? What she said is allegedly true.

ScruffMuffin · 19/09/2022 15:00

Imogen
Thea

Violet
Dahlia

Cora

King Brutus' wife, whose name appears as "Innogen", lived 12,000 years ago - the story had been repeated by many storytellers and copied out by many scribes. Shakespeare used the story for his play, the printer misread the handwritten manuscript.
Imogen is a lovely sounding name so generations of parents have used it and there are plenty of role models with the name.
It's a little harsh to dismiss the name as a mere spelling error.

TempsPerdu · 19/09/2022 18:40

Cora is the standout for me; feminine but not frilly or fussy, and familiar without being dull. Violet is pretty too, but very common atm so I’d be more inclined to use it as a middle name. Imogen and Thea are fine but very meh for me (and I really don’t like Immy as a nn) and I’m not keen on Dahlia - dislike the ‘ah’ sound.

ElizaSkye · 19/09/2022 19:00

I love your whole list. I adore Dahlia but have seen it on several name annoucmenets recently (which you may not mind)

my least is probably Imogen only because I don’t think it’s a special as the others somehow

Mummytobe333 · 20/09/2022 15:36

Thank you everyone for helping 😊 I have narrowed it down to 4 now - progress I suppose !!
