French DH wants a name I really do like - Pascale - for our daughter but not sure how it will go down here. Think Britain's playgrounds are ready?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
LynetteScavo · 23/01/2008 21:58

Yes.

dizzydance · 23/01/2008 21:59

I think its a lovely name, really pretty.

SnappyLaGore · 23/01/2008 21:59

love it. very cosmopolitan. and everyone knows the french are sexy/romantic/wacky/cool.

no brainer. why have a dull old english name when you can have a suave sophisticated french name?

EffiePerine · 23/01/2008 21:59

Knew a Pascale at school (she was v cool). So yes

controlfreakygobshite · 23/01/2008 22:01

hmm sorry to put a spanner in the works, but I prefer other French girl names such as 'Simone' (my favourite!), and still quite unusual but more widespread than 'Pascale'.

Budcat · 24/01/2008 13:42

Really pretty name- go for it. I have an unusual name and although there were some raised eyebrows in 1980s playgrounds it is so different now. Had no qualms about giving my son a name reflecting his heritage and no raised eyebrows at school!

lulalullabye · 24/01/2008 13:43

mato, very nice name. Another lovely french name is Etienne, male or female.

SnappyLaGore · 24/01/2008 16:29

i always liked etienne and assumed it was female, but its not, its steven in french. still lovely tho.

ilove8pm · 24/01/2008 20:06

really lovely. can imagine it suiting a young girl and an adult.

chocolateshoes · 24/01/2008 20:08

Lovely name.

I knew a Pascale at school. Her sister was Claudine (an equally nice name, I think)

EachPeachPearMum · 25/01/2008 00:03

Etienne was on our list (well pretty much only boys name) - DH is french.

I like Pascale - certainly not outlandish

lemonstartree · 25/01/2008 10:55

good name. also like Celine,

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/01/2008 10:57

I like Pascale - knew a French girl with that name at school
Also knew a Sandrine and my pen pal was a French girl called Sylvie. There are two half French girls locally called Amelie.

marina · 25/01/2008 10:58

J'adore
And the problem of combining it injudiciously with eg Higginbotham or any other very English family name will not be an issue

TsarChasm · 25/01/2008 10:59

I like it a lot. Unusual, elegant and hard to shorten.

marina · 25/01/2008 10:59

Sylvie, after la Vartan I guess MaryAnn
All the French penpals I knew were Sandrine, Sylvie or Valerie, vive les 70!

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/01/2008 11:02

yes, I always think of Sylvie Vartan ( and Johnny Hallyday!)

marina · 25/01/2008 11:03

That's Mr Smets to you
I hear he has finally, finally retired

divamummy2 · 25/01/2008 11:05

lovely name,
i love french name, specially girls mane.

MaryAnnSingleton · 25/01/2008 11:05

I always think he must be dead by now...along with Claude Francois - it all reminds me of family holidays in France when I scoured the magazine racks in the Monoprix
