Which Boys Name??????

Chunkamatic · 23/01/2008 12:05

Hello, this is my first time starting a post on here...

I am 36 weeks and am fairly convinced the bump is going to be a boy. We have spent 7 months agonising over boys names and have come up with a choice of 2....

Gene or Ned.

if we go for ned we would possibly call him edward but use ned.

Which one is nicest (and least cruel?!)

Thanks
x

Ned! I want Ted, but DH says in that case we have to name him Tedward officially

MuffinMclay · 23/01/2008 14:12

Ned. Not keen on Gene.

We've (almost) agreed on Edward as a middle name for ds2.

Artichokes · 23/01/2008 14:17

Ned, but christened Edward.

PS I hope you are thinking of girls names too. Everyone I know who has been convinved they are having one sex has ended up having the other .

Sunshinemummy · 23/01/2008 14:20

I like both. Sorry no help.

chopchopbusybusy · 23/01/2008 14:57

Sorry, but don't like Gene. Don't mind Ned - but it depends where you are in the country. Ned is Scotland translates to troublemaker.

lazarou · 23/01/2008 14:58

Liam gallagher has a son called Gene doesn't he? I quite like it

Chunkamatic · 23/01/2008 14:59

Girls names have been really easy - we've had a long list for ages but I think we've decided on Martha Edith.
Boys names have just been sooo diffcult for us both to agree, it really has taken us this long to get to 2 names!

Gene reminds me of Gene Hunt in Life on Mars - so it feels a bit old-fashioned to me.

Ned is nice - but only as long as he doesn't ever go to Scotland, as it's a well-used phrase that stands for something like "non-educated deliquant"

Chunkamatic · 23/01/2008 15:02

Chopchopbusybusy - you are right. Two of my best friends live in Edinburgh so they pointed that out!!! We dont and most likely never will live there though so I guess it shouldnt matter??

Neither. Sorry.

Hulababy · 23/01/2008 15:04

I don't like Gene.

Ned is nice, but would have Edward on birth certificate personally.

Tigerschick · 23/01/2008 15:07

Agree with most people - Edward on the birth certificate and then call him Ned.
This would also by-pass the problem mentioned about the meaning in Scotland - if he goes there in the future he can choose to be called Ed/Ted/Edward etc.

ThreeBluecubs · 01/02/2008 12:50

Love Ned - we nearly used it. We were going to have a BeNEDict though.

Frizbe · 01/02/2008 12:53

Ned

Bluenosesaint · 01/02/2008 12:55

I love Edward, so on that basis - Ned

Pollyanna · 01/02/2008 13:05

I think we are going to call our dc Ned (Edward) if it is a boy.

Don't like Gene really, sorry.

Snowstorm · 01/02/2008 13:07

Edward/Ned.

mamazee · 01/02/2008 22:39

I love Ned but I know 4

BoysAreLikeDogs · 01/02/2008 22:44

DS2 was very nearly Ned

Don't like Gene, sorry

calzone · 01/02/2008 22:45

ned

glitterkitty · 01/02/2008 22:48

Horace.

Sorry, Ned.

Gene is like Gene Wilder to me.

My brother is called Edward, so Ned, absolutely (although he is an Ed to his friends, and Ted to me).

chocolateshoes · 02/02/2008 20:38

Ned or Ted are really lovely. Please, not Gene

Bluestocking · 02/02/2008 20:40

I like Ned. Gene's a bit try-hard.
