It's a beautiful name with a beautiful meaning, just pronounce it properly!

tigerbear · 06/09/2022 13:43

my DD is an Orla. Love the fact that it’s still relatively uncommon, but not ‘out there’.
No others in her class or school.

McConkeysPlate · 06/09/2022 13:46

I have one. Easy to spell, not overused.

JenniferBarkley · 06/09/2022 13:48

I'm Irish, like it well enough but know approximately a thousand (of all ages which is good though). Many British accents don't pronounce the letter R and so say it as Aw-la. Or some add phantom Rs and render it Or-ler. I don't like those pronunciations.

WishICouldButIDontWantTo · 06/09/2022 13:49

Beautiful name. As @McConkeysPlate said, easy to spell (so no confusions over the phone or anything) and not too overused...although 2 people I'm friends with on FB have used it recently so might be becoming more popular these days. Still a beautiful name though :)

Rowen32 · 06/09/2022 13:51

Orlagh is lovely too, same pronunciation but I think it's a prettier spelling and not as complicated as Orlaith!

MissHavishamsMouldyOldCake · 06/09/2022 13:56

Orlagh is a bit of an Oirish spelling so I couldn't condone that one I'm afraid! Grin

BestCatMumEver · 06/09/2022 14:30

Lovely but sooo popular.

User2145738790 · 06/09/2022 14:32

This year's Ottilie.

gamerchick · 06/09/2022 14:37

Isn't it written as Orfhlaith? Prefer the simpler version though.

Boxofsockss · 06/09/2022 14:37

Lovely name

Latenightreader · 06/09/2022 14:38

My daughter has three friends called Orla, all aged 3-4. Two have an Irish parent, and the third has Irish ancestry. I have come across quite a few small Orlas through work so have the impression it is rather popular, but it is a nice name.

Pretty unusual to meet an Orfhlaith. Orlaith is a bit more common. But generally it's Orla.

DuchessOfSausage · 06/09/2022 17:17

I don't like it. It's getting popular, gets said as Awluh, and I can't not see Oral

DinaofCloud9 · 06/09/2022 17:20

I really like it.

Skelligsfeathers · 06/09/2022 17:21

I just see Oral

COL1N · 06/09/2022 17:41

How are you meant to pronounce it? I just say Or-La!

Luredbyapomegranate · 06/09/2022 20:09

It’s alright

V popular

I think Oona is much nicer, and more unusual

Love it.

Yes?

Orlagh is a made up spelling intended to look more Irish. But it's inauthentic: Oirish.

limitededitionbarbie · 06/09/2022 21:58

Gorgeous

pilates · 06/09/2022 22:03

Love it

CoastalWave · 06/09/2022 22:08

Too common. There's 5 in daughter's year alone. Not one is even remotely Irish!

Makes me think of Awful Oral.
