Is Lydia a nice name

Dixie29 · 04/09/2022 12:31

Baby girl is already here and still not 100% settled on a name..
We are leaning towards Lydia (middle name Hope) but something is not clicking, we keep doubting it for some reason.
My partner really likes Willow which is a lovely name but I have a few reservations.
Other than that we don't have a lot of other options!

Any opinions on Lydia would be great!

I love Lydia! We know a little Lydia and she is just the sweetest!

I like it but my Husband hates it. He says it’s too close to Linda and that’s all he hears. So I suppose it’s personal choice .

Ahahaha little baby Linda

Well every name (probably) rhymes with something else if you try hard enough. Not a reason not to use it, imo.

londonlass71 · 04/09/2022 13:59

Beautiful name. Willow is ok but Lydia is much nicer

Spidey66 · 04/09/2022 14:03

I like it. Unusual enough for her to be the only Lydia in her class, but not so unusual that people can't spell or pronounce it or to be 'trying too hard' out there. Willow's nice, but I prefer Lydia.

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/09/2022 14:04

Simple, classic and beautiful. Teaching for 22 years and all Lydia's have been lovely (and not too many).

I am sure anyone below 16 will not make an Aunt Lydia connection so that would come from adults. Same with chlamydia at primary. The only two nicknames I have heard for Lydia are Lyd and Lyds

Pieceofpurplesky · 04/09/2022 14:05

Excuse the apostrophe. I blame predictive text

Biscuitsneeded · 04/09/2022 14:06

Yes, lovely.

Lydiamyname · 04/09/2022 14:28

Name changed for this as my name is Lydia 🙂. I like my name as it is unusual, I did get called Lydia teapot by my family sometimes when I was little but it was in an affectionate way. I was Lyds to some friends as I teenager but I chose that. I do like meeting other Lydia's, we always seem to comment that we don't meet many others 😁. And your choice of middle name is far better than my middle name 🤣.

Facecream · 04/09/2022 14:29

I have a Lydia!!
If I could give her a different middle name I’d use Louise - I think Lydia Louise sounds lovely

Abracadabra12345 · 04/09/2022 14:34

Lydia is such a beautiful, musical name. It doesn’t have to be shortened by anyone

cavia · 04/09/2022 14:40

I like them both, Lydia slightly more than Willow! I feel it she's better as you can imagine a little girl or an old lady called it. Somehow I can't see a Willow older than 25

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 04/09/2022 14:44

Personally not keen. I'm in my 60's and it was of my parents generation, so it seems old, but not ready for revival to ME. It always felt a bit clunky & heavy to me, but that may be reflecting in the ones I grew up with as aunts/friends parents.

From all the other posts, it seems popular amongst younger parents.

but you don't LOVE it, so I'd keep looking!

strawberry2017 · 04/09/2022 14:46

I love Lydia, we wanted to use it for our little girl.
Sadly my husbands dad put him off it by telling there was a family member with the name (not that we would ever see this person)

Lydia is a classic to me along with the likes of Francesca, Georgia and Harriet
Willow has a completely different vibe

PleaseGiveMeJustALittleMoreTime · 04/09/2022 14:59

Just no. I really dislike it. Sorry @Dixie29 It just reminds me of chlamydia - and also and old Chubby Brown song.

Normandy144 · 04/09/2022 14:59

I love Lydia too but sadly DH didn't like it. We used Claudia instead which I also love.

angieloumc · 04/09/2022 15:00

I love Lydia, it's so pretty. For me as well, Lorna has the same vibe.

newbiename · 04/09/2022 15:07

Lovely name and I know one and she's also lovely

Same

KirstenBlest · 04/09/2022 20:23

It's lovely but Lyds isn't.
Lydia Hope in some accents will sound like Lydia Rope.
How does it sound with the surname? middle names are hardly used.

GreyGoose1980 · 05/09/2022 15:46

Love the name Lydia

DeeDeeDaisy · 05/09/2022 15:50

Lydia Hope sounds lovely, way better than Willow. In fact Lydia was on our list!

locke360 · 05/09/2022 15:53

Lydia sounds a bit dated to me - I much prefer Willow. Horses for courses though. Both are perfectly good names.

Vinylloving · 05/09/2022 15:56

I've never liked the name Lydia if I'm honest. It sounds a bit harsh and I haven't liked the Lydias I've known! I know that's a bit irrational but it is what it is! It's neither a pretty name or a strong female name to me. I associate it with frumpiness
