Hi,
I'm new here! I'm expecting my third child in December and we are super excited because we are having a girl, we already have two lovely boys Oliver and Alfie. We cannot agree on a name and it's driving me insane! We know the middle name will be after my Mum's middle name Christine. Anyway so far our list is ; Ava, Sophie, Abigail, Lily, Grace. My favourite is Ava! What do you think? 💗

I like Abigail and Grace from your list.

How about:
Chloe
Daria
Layla
Elodie
Zoe

mathanxiety · 28/08/2022 05:42

Hazel is gorgeous though.

MassiveSalad22 · 28/08/2022 05:43

Although actually I know more Hazels than Avas if that bothers you 😄

Penguinsaregreat · 28/08/2022 08:11

If your husband chose your boys name then you should have the final say on this name.
I like Sophie best from your initial list but if you prefer Ava then go with that.

Luredbyapomegranate · 28/08/2022 08:15

Congratulations!

Nice list of names - I love Ava but I’d probably go for Sophie (less overused) or Abigail (not overused at all).

The only ones I don’t like are Lily (very wet and very overused) and Hazel (clunky).

WishDragon · 28/08/2022 09:09

Ava, Sophie, Abigail, Lily, Grace.

Apart from Abigail they’re all just very popular girls names.

Ava is everywhere, there was one point where I thought every girl I knew was called Ava. It just feels overused.
Same with Lily. There are sooo many Lily’s around.
Sophie is nice but dull.
Grace, again massively overused. Especially as it’s one of the filler middle names for girls. Every Lily or Ava will be Ava Rose, Ava May, Lily Rose, Lily Grace. It’s a bit boring tbh.

Not a fan of Evelyn and she’ll just be yet another one of the 100 Evie’s at school (all with the same middle name as above)

Don’t like Harriet and hate Hattie. Know a few little Harriets.

Cant stand Hazel, to me it’s very 80s and middle aged.

Abigail is the nicest and I never hear it.

Cindie943811A · 28/08/2022 11:57

If you use Harriet it will sound like you were hoping for a third son.
Ava is nice but way too popular.
Sophie would be my preferred choice for your little girl

CharlieBoo · 28/08/2022 17:07

There are just so so many Ava’s and Lily’s .. I think Sophie is the best.. love that name x

Wheresmysewjo · 28/08/2022 17:12

Definitely Abigail.

Or Imogen would also sound nice with your boys.

user1477391263 · 28/08/2022 18:42

Hazel!

YKND · 28/08/2022 18:44

Hmmm. Hitler’s girlfriend’s name. I believe, in general, it’s best to avoid names closely associated with specific historical figures.

YKND · 28/08/2022 18:45

I appreciate the spelling is not the same. But still.

RobertsRadio · 28/08/2022 18:46

Harriet and Hazel are both lovely, although I prefer Harriet. I also like Abigail.
what about Verity?

Snugglemuffins4me · 28/08/2022 18:50

I like Abigail and Lilly I had both on my last list but my husband didn’t like either 🙃

cordelia16 · 28/08/2022 19:19

I like Abigail and Hazel.

SurpriseSurprise · 28/08/2022 19:22

Oliver, Alfie and Ava is a bit of a tongue twister to say. I think Grace goes nicest from your list. I do like Harriet which someone above recommended too

Beautifulsunflowers · 28/08/2022 19:27

Harriet is so lovely with your sons names. That’s what I would choose.

17caterpillars1mouse · 28/08/2022 19:41

I love Abigail. You never hear it on little ones these days yet it's a lovely classic biblical name and Abbey is a cute NN

The other names are nice enough but all a bit samey, done to death at the moment

ellieboolou · 28/08/2022 21:14

Hazel, so many Lily's & Ava's and like another poster mentioned, they sound wet names.
Congratulations

Hmmm. Hitler’s girlfriend’s name. I believe, in general, it’s best to avoid names closely associated with specific historical figures.

Her name was Eva, not Ava. And even Eva is an extremely popular name for girls in this country. Maybe Adolf is too linked, but when it’s a very popular name any links are diluted in the huge pool of people with that name. It’s like saying you can’t call your child Jack as it’s ‘too linked’ to Jack the Ripper. It isn’t linked because there are so many Jacks.

Riverlee · 28/08/2022 21:33

Ava and Alfie sound too similar to me.

Pemba · 29/08/2022 01:28

Yes, ridiculous to drag up Eva Braun. The name has been so common across the world for centuries, people will not make that connection. And EB was not important anyway.

Eva is actually pronounced as Ava in most countries I believe, it's just in English speaking countries we say 'ee-va'.

SequinsandStilettos · 29/08/2022 02:16

Oliver, Alfie and Grace
All three stand individually.
Sound good together.
Classic name.
--unless nn becomes Gracie. See below)

Ava - matchy A and -er sound (unless meant for hers to be an amalgamation)
Sophie - matchy with Alfie
Abigail - matchy A and nn Abbie too close
Lily - matchy with Alfie
Evelyn - ok but nn Evie matchy
Harriet - not that keen, nn Harry matchy
Hazel - ok but dated

SequinsandStilettos · 29/08/2022 02:26

Oliver Alfie and Imogen
Oliver Alfie and Grace
Oliver Alfie and Isabel
but
If your Oliver is known as Olly anyway then
Olly, Alfie, Sophie
Olly, Alfie, Evie
Olly, Alfie, Rosie
Olly, Alfie, Sylvie

KirstenBlest · 29/08/2022 07:47

Ava - dislike
Sophie - nice but popular. Sophia too popular
Abigail - like
Lily - overused
Grace - ok but overused as a middle name
