Following on from my previous thread, I really like the name Alba for a girl - interested in opinions? Thanks.

Whatwherehowwhenwho · 21/08/2022 20:08

Orangesare · 21/08/2022 20:09

i like it, I think it’s Gaelic for Scotland.

jetplanefuel · 21/08/2022 20:10

Pronounced correctly it's ok but it is naming your child after a country which is massively frowned upon in certain circles

Pinkflipflop85 · 21/08/2022 20:10

Like the stereo?

Gardenerboo · 21/08/2022 20:11

Latin for White.

Namechangeforthis88 · 21/08/2022 20:11

Political party in Scotland.

BeachTree · 21/08/2022 20:14

Amongst other things, the world Alba has a strong connection to Scotland that may or may not be a problem to you though.

MichelleScarn · 21/08/2022 20:15

Sorry just makes me think of Alex Salmond and his politics .

WishDragon · 21/08/2022 20:17

Really dislike it.

IDontDrinkTea · 21/08/2022 20:18

Very popular name in Spain. I think it’s beautiful

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/08/2022 20:23

I don’t like it much, it’s a bit too close to Alma which is too downtrodden 60s barmaid for me, also it reminds me of a depressing Spanish play where all the daughters were bullied (the house of Bernadine Alba or something)

Others

Astra (which means star)
Aphra
Aster
Adela

Ugly name.

PlanetNormal · 21/08/2022 20:45

I know an Alba, she’s Spanish. Nice lady, nice name.

LoversLane · 21/08/2022 20:46

It's lovely, Spanish for dawn or sunrise. My niece is an Alba and she loves her name.

UnityO · 21/08/2022 20:46

I would not call my child 'Scotland'!

I like the other suggestions of Alma and Aster and I really like Astrid too.
