Less than 4 weeks until my due date and we still haven't been able to figure out a middle name for our baby girl!

My grandmas name was Doreen and I'd love to have something similar. I've considered "Dora" but the baby's first name ends in "a" and I think it sounds too similar.

Does anyone have any ideas please?Smile

There's no point if you are changing it though ?

No one gives a shit about middle names

Just use Doreen

Dotcheck · 18/08/2022 22:30

Another vote for using Doreen- or her maiden name.

alpinia · 18/08/2022 22:31

Dorine or Dorien or one of the other more European spellings? They don't look quite as dated as Doreen but keep it as the same name?

J0y · 18/08/2022 22:32

I like the Irish version pronounced ''DEERin''
Doíreann

Mehhhhhhh · 18/08/2022 22:33

It’s really awful. I’d hate to have it as a middle name. You don’t need to honour or remember a relative by lumbering your child with a horrid name.

Longdistance · 18/08/2022 22:35

Delores? Love that name.

You know what, just use Doreen. You'll be ahead of the curve - names always come back - and no one uses middle names anyway. What a lovely reason!

This!

Drina?

GreenClock · 18/08/2022 22:37

I don’t see the point of honouring a lady named Doreen by using the name Doris, Dorothy, Dolores, Renee etc etc.

Either use Doreen, or her nickname, or her maiden name.

DinosaursEatMan · 18/08/2022 22:38

I’d use Doreen. I am biased though as I had a lovely aunt Doreen and remember her very fondly.

Sandysandwich · 18/08/2022 22:42

I don't know it it works with a different but similar name but
Dory
Dottie
Dodie
Reenie
Rene
Do

I agree with others - if you’re looking for a name to honour your Grandmother then I’d just use Doreen 😊

If you just want something similar then I’d go for Dorrie 😊

Dory is pretty

ignoring the fish element

Shame you aren't having twins you could have had a Nemo to go with Dory!
🐠

But I like Dora

badbaduncle · 18/08/2022 22:43

Doreen is adorable

factfile · 18/08/2022 22:48

It does not matter at all whether the first and middle names end in A. DD has this because her middle is after a grandmother. I don't think I've said her full name out loud more than about 5 times and anyway, I doubt yours sounds that bad. If you like Dora and not Doreen then use Dora. Dori also cute.

Bargoed · 18/08/2022 22:58

Dorè means gold

Doireann is Doreen in Irish and is pronounced Dir-in

i think it’s lovely 😊

Was coming on to suggest this as its a beautiful name However l would stick with Doreen. My dd has a very old-fashioned second name compliments of her grandma and she loves it. Actually has asked why l didn't name her that as its so unusual. My gd also has an old fashioned second name and her parents sometimes jokingly give her the full title and she loves it.
Go with Doreen!

JustGotToKeepOnKeepingOn · 18/08/2022 23:31

Dorian

Enko · 18/08/2022 23:34

I loke Doreen. Aided by the fact the few I've known have been really lovely so positive association's for me and I would use it. I say that as someone who has a similar old-fashioned middlename it's ok

MammaWeasel · 18/08/2022 23:34

Doe

LearnedAxolotl · 18/08/2022 23:40

Just use doreen. That was her actual name. If you call her something else that sounds a bit like doreen, you're not actually calling her after your grandmother.

this. It is a middle name so doesn't have to be a name you adore as a name. the point of it is telling your dd that she has a middle name after your grandmother who was lovely. All of mine have middle names after much-loved family members and they really like it.

SarahDippity · 18/08/2022 23:51

I knew a girl in college called Doreen, and it was considered deeply uncool, so she became known as Darina (her choice.). Dara is also a nice Irish name, suitable for a girl or boy, and means ‘the second’, so would work to honour the original Dora too.

MarmadukeSpillageEsquire · 18/08/2022 23:54

Another vote for just using Doreen. Today I met a beautiful newborn baby girl with the middle name Joan and it doesn't seem anachronistic on her at all and it flows beautifully with her other names, and it's is memory of a very special lady. Win-win!
