5+3 with DC2. Early days but it took FOREVER to decide DD’s name! We couldn’t settle on anything. Here’s my current (short) list for boys and girls - please be honest! Surname ends is 2 syllables, begins with M and ends in ‘uh’ sound (like Miller).

Girls

  1. Willow

  2. Teaghan

  3. Poppy

  4. Brooke

  5. George

  6. Jack

  7. Leo

  8. Frank

Girls
• Willow: love it, very pretty.
• Teaghan: this is one of my favourites!
• Poppy: it's meh, ok but bland and a bit overused.
• Brooke: another pretty name a bit "stronger" than the others I think.
Boys
• George: dislike this and it's also overused since Prince George.
• Jack: meh, so, so bland.
• Leo: not my cup of tea but ok.
• Frank: oh gosh no it's awful although Frankie is very slightly better.

In short I love your girl's names but find the boys a bit uninspired, sorry!

@Hobbesmanc i like fashionable names, and am not at all bothered if there are a few others with the same name at their school. I don’t really consider popularity etc, just whether the name itself is nice and I like it. John is a bit stale and dated for me. Thanks for your suggestions!

Willow and Jack are lovely imo, if like me, you don't mind popular names. Leo is also nice enough - although you couldn't have Willow if you had a Leo. And Jack is classic anyway so I think the popularity matters even less (I know George is classic too, I just don't like the stodgy sound of it! Like you with John - which I personally love).

The others aren't my cup of tea for various reasons - too cutesy (Poppy), bit harsh sounding (Brooke, Frank), too surname plus spelling issue (Tegan/Teagan/Teahgan) - but that's all personal taste.

cordelia16 · 16/08/2022 13:59

I love Willow, but for me it would depend on your actual surname. I know you said it's like Miller, but even if similar with double Ls... Willow Miller just doesn't sound nice.

I like Teagan (this spelling) and Poppy, but not really a fan of Brooke.

Boy names are all fine: Jack, Leo, George, Frank would be my order.

Good luck!

Titsflyingsouth · 16/08/2022 16:04

Willow and Jack are my favourites. Leo and Frank also not bad.

I hate Teaghan. Not my taste personally - but the spelling of this is particularly yuk.

I have some distant cousins called Poppy and Willow... they must be around 15-18 now. I distinctly remember people's reactions when they were told the names - most people laughed and said they sounded like cat names! So I just think that now.
My favourite from the girl list is Teaghan and my favourite boy's name is Leo, which I love!

Goodnewsday · 17/08/2022 23:12

I like all the boy’s names apart from frank but I’m not keen on the girls names at all sorry! Hate saying I don’t like peoples names but that is the whole point of it on here I suppose 🙈 sorry!

Eliode2000 · 18/08/2022 10:49

I like Willow and Leo

Thatmiddleagedparent · 18/08/2022 10:53

Willow is a nice name.

Pemba · 19/08/2022 15:17

Willow and Jack are the nicest imo.

PlacesIGo · 19/08/2022 15:48

I'd say some of these are a bit 10-15 years ago. Eg George, Jack, Poppy, Tegan. And speaking as someone who's name was popular 15 years before I was born it's a bit of a burden when you're a kid - you feel distinctly uncool.

It's different if the name is either very old (and therefore vintage) or very current, or just very rare.

On that basis I really like Frank (Franklin) or Willow.

Hobeau · 19/08/2022 15:51

The girls' names aren't my cup of tea at all, particularly Teaghan (sic).

George is a good, solid name.

George, Jack and Poppy are number 7, 3 and 34 this year, so not that left behind?

I have to be honest I’m not keen on the granny chic names that are in at the moment so I’m a bit stuck as they’re everywhere!

Girls

Willow - Adore this! Nature, calm, sturdy, beautiful
Teaghan - Meh. Whatever.
Poppy - sounds a bit popular, you know
Brooke - second to Willow. Quite american like Teaghan.

Boys

George - stately but nice. Personally, I had a bad experince with someone named George and that's why I don't like it. So sure for you
Jack - a bit popular but not too popular. Quite like a farmer name
Leo - I like this the best of boys
Frank - Does it sound a bit grandpa-ish to you?

I don't hate any and I am really bad at naming boys

Wouldloveanother · 19/08/2022 15:57

Frank to me is a bit east end hard man sounding 😂 like Stanley or reggie etc

I get that!

goldfinchonthelawn · 19/08/2022 16:07

I like all the boys' names.

The only girls' name I like is Poppy.

They are most definitely on the wane and not at all popular in London where I am. I think they will have a dated feel - just my humble opinion.

Understandable about the grabby chic. I feel similar. In that case I'd choose a rare one.

PlacesIGo · 19/08/2022 16:16

*granny not grabby - lol

Sweetandsour1 · 19/08/2022 16:30

Willow - ok, bland, overused
Teaghan (had to read back to check how you’d spelt it!) - boring, harsh imo
Poppy - nicest of the girls names
Brooke - like

George, Jack, Frank - love!
Leo - cute as a baby, not as a 40 year old man haha

FayCarew · 19/08/2022 18:39

I know at least two middle-aged Leos and the name suits both of them.

Pemba · 19/08/2022 19:51

Yes I don't see why a Leo is only a suitable name for a baby not a middle aged man ( ha ha). What?? There are many well known men named Leo.

You could say that more about Poppy TBH.
