5+3 with DC2. Early days but it took FOREVER to decide DD’s name! We couldn’t settle on anything. Here’s my current (short) list for boys and girls - please be honest! Surname ends is 2 syllables, begins with M and ends in ‘uh’ sound (like Miller).

Girls

  1. Willow

  2. Teaghan

  3. Poppy

  4. Brooke

  5. George

  6. Jack

  7. Leo

  8. Frank

They are all nice names. My faves would be Willow and Leo x

AWobABobBob · 13/08/2022 20:45

Unless you're Irish I wouldn't use Teaghan.

I like George and Willow or Brooke the most.

Why not?

Would you use Sven, Sandheep or Helga? I personally think it's weird using foreign names of which you don't have heritage. Aside from that it will also be spelt and pronounced incorrectly by the British.

Very few people have names rooted in their heritage. It wouldn’t bother me at all.

Willow okay
Teaghan awful
Poppy okay for a child but as a grown up?
Brooke okay

none of these are ‘pretty’ to me.

George great
Jack okay
Leo good
Frank awful

Fabuleuse · 13/08/2022 21:07

I don't like any of your girl names, sorry, especially Teaghan. I love your boy names. My favourite is Frank.

Mumofgirls2017 · 13/08/2022 21:58

Girls

Willow- love
Teaghan- ok but American and spelling issues
Poppy- meh, wet
Brooke- 90s USA

Boys
George- ok; lots around
Jack- bland
Leo- like
Frank- like

MercuryOnTheRise · 13/08/2022 22:09

Poppy was fine in the 90's with a classical middle name.

Willow - a bit Buffy the Vampire for me.

Teaching and Brooke, just awful.

George is the best but I don't like it much. It always makes me thingnof Georgie, Porkies, Pudding and Pie, sat in a corner and made the girls cry.

Jack (diminutive of John). John is much better.

Leo - short for Leonardo

Frank - short for Francis. I'm not keen on the Francis/Frances, Leslie/Lesley, Vivian/Vivien, Josslin/Jocelyn genres.

What about Georgina/Georgia for a girl and John for a boy?

blameitonthecaffeine · 13/08/2022 22:19

I know siblings called Jack and Teagan. I think they're both great names and definitely my favourites on your list.

I also quite like Willow and Leo.

Dobbycraft · 13/08/2022 22:30

I really don't like Teaghan and would rule it out, I like all the others

DramaAlpaca · 13/08/2022 22:47

I don't know where Teaghan is from, but it certainly isn't Irish.

I really like Leo and Jack, but I'm not keen on the others.

I particularly don't like Poppy and Frank.

blameitonthecaffeine · 13/08/2022 22:53

I'm pretty sure Teagan is a Welsh name.

I don't think the extra h changes the origin.

AlwaysLatte · 13/08/2022 22:53

I don't like any of the girls names, but on a similar vein is Thea, which I think is really nice. I like all of the boys names except Frank which is more of a dog's name - to me, anyway!

AlwaysLatte · 13/08/2022 22:54

I like Leo the best of the boys names.

blameitonthecaffeine · 13/08/2022 22:55

Actually I'm wrong. I googled. It is Irish. An Irish version of an older, different Welsh name.

All the boy's names are fine, I really like Leo, Jack and George nice, Frank is cool. I think I'd use Leo.

Girl names... I really hate Teaghan and Brooke because I feel that these are both a bit chavvy (sorry). Willow and Poppy are both very pretty, though!

DaisyJoy1 · 14/08/2022 07:10

I also agree that Tegan is a normal name but I've never seen your spelling before. Always seen it spelled like this: Tegan.

BungleandGeorge · 14/08/2022 11:34

AWobABobBob · 13/08/2022 20:49

But when you look at names the vast majority originated from overseas at some stage?

BeanieTeen · 14/08/2022 12:14

The only Teagan I know has a mum from Northern Ireland. So presume it does have Irish links - not sure exactly now how it was spelled but it definitely didn’t have an H in it. Nice enough name. Better than Brooke I think as it is a bit dated now.

Poppy is ok.

I think Willow is your best one.

FayCarew · 14/08/2022 12:26

@BungleandGeorge , can you substantiate that?

Tegan is Welsh for toy and is pronounced TEG-ann

Hobbesmanc · 14/08/2022 12:28

The boys names are all good solid choices. But Jack especially as been ridiculously popular for decades. George is heading that way too. I love Frank and Leo for babies and kittens!

If you want sturdy none fashionable names with the same resonance but less current use, what about Peter, John or David.

Willow is a little twee and apologies but Poppy isn't a name a like. It's girly and flimsy. Brooke seems a little dated. Teagan seems to be getting popular. I like it.

DangerouslyBored · 14/08/2022 12:51

I dislike all of the girls’ names. Poppy and Willow are just so meh. They sound like cockapoo names. Brooke is dated. Teaghan is dreadful. Too try hard.

George is a wonderful name. It’s a shame it’s so popular now. Leo is like Theo, a bit low rent. Jack has been done to death.

DangerouslyBored · 14/08/2022 12:52

Oh and how could I forget Frank. Was that added as a joke? Frank Grin just no!
