Elvie - what could it be short for?

Love this nickname for a little girl, but we like nickname sounding names to have a more official sounding actual name for the birth certificate. I've thought of Evelyn but not overly keen on it. Ideas?

Elvira or Elva

I think Elvie is a name though. It may be an anglicisation of a celtic name. I know an Elva and an Elvie in Ireland.

xJoyfulCalmWisdomx · 07/08/2022 10:14

Ah yes, bit of googling shows, there's an old English name Elvina as well as the Irish name Ailbhe which Elvie sounds like (not exactly though).

caringcarer · 07/08/2022 10:15

Elvera

Debbiedoodah · 07/08/2022 10:16

Sorry but it just makes me think you've named your child after a pelvic floor trainer or breast pump

RockinHorseShite · 07/08/2022 10:27

Delphine is the given name of the "Elfie" we know

RockinHorseShite · 07/08/2022 10:27

Like others I can only really think of Elvira or maybe Elva (similar style to Alba). I quite like Elvira NN Elvie actually.

Another suggestion is my DD NN Elspie which has a similar feel to Elvie.

pinklavenders · 07/08/2022 16:05

It has to be Elvira!

Elfrida/Elfreda

My great aunt's name 🥰. She's known as Freda, but her official name is Elfriede.

Notnastypasty · 07/08/2022 16:13

How about something like Eleanor Victoria or Elle Vivienne so you’re taking the sounds from both names?

Minecraftatemychild · 07/08/2022 16:28

Leona Violet.

Linda Veronica!

Lara Valentina.

Evelyn

Elvina

Elvara

Make something up 🤷‍♀️

I was going to suggest Louise Victoria

Thanks everyone 😊 Yes I'm aware of the breast pump, I don't think anyone other than other mums will think of that though 🤷🏼‍♀️ I'm not keen on Elvira/Elvera and I won't get my husband on board with just Elvie I'm afraid 😬

I like the idea of LV initials!

Elva is a name - and much nicer than Elvira so I’d go for that.

Evanna at a push I spose.

tenbob · 07/08/2022 20:00

is Elva pronounced ‘elver’? Like a baby eel?

xJoyfulCalmWisdomx · 07/08/2022 20:03

No, Elver is ell very. Ella is Ell va

xJoyfulCalmWisdomx · 07/08/2022 20:04

Auto correct 😑
Elver = Ell vurr

pinklavenders · 07/08/2022 20:57

is Elva pronounced ‘elver’?

There's no R is Elva ConfusedConfused

LT2 · 07/08/2022 21:20

I also immediately thought of the breast pump

whatausername · 07/08/2022 23:34

Evelda? A small stretch to get there but not too much

wellhelloitsme · 07/08/2022 23:39

I never understand this, if you love the name then just use it as is!

wellhelloitsme · 07/08/2022 23:40

I won't get my husband on board with just Elvie I'm afraid

Is he happy with the baby being called Elvie as a NN though? If so it seems odd he's not happy for it it be her 'real' name as is...
