What would Rory get shortened to

I often hear that every name ends up being shortened, especially once they start school. So what would Rory get shortened to?! Roar?! I’d hate that! Anyone know a Rory and does it get shortened? If so, to what?

The little one we know gets Rors too.

Carrieonmywaywardsun · 28/07/2022 15:33

The Rory I know is Roz to friends.

Steelesauce · 28/07/2022 15:35

I have a Rory, he's known as Rory mostly at school. I call him Roar or Roarz a lot of the time.

lolly07766 · 28/07/2022 15:35

My Son is James Rory
My Grandson is Rory-James double barrelled, we call him RJ 😊

Steelesauce · 28/07/2022 15:36

Oh and hes the only Rory in the whole school. Unlike my eldest of which there are 6 of his name in the school and they are known as first name + last name initial 🤣

Flymeaway4 · 28/07/2022 15:46

Hadn't considered that, thank you @pinklavenders

I have a friend called Rory but he is Roz to us

AmandaMirandaPanda · 28/07/2022 23:45

I know a Rory who gets Ro or Roro, and a Ruairí who gets Ru (Roo? Rue?) Completely informal, though - neither would ever introduce himself that way.

Mrspige · 28/07/2022 23:48

I’d say roar or ro ro. Or even lion or something?

we have a Brody bear and a Zacky roo. I’d have a Rory lion 🦁

CPL593H · 28/07/2022 23:54

Roar
Roro
Roo
Rooey

TBH, these are guesses and I think it's less open to shortening than most, although if people want to, they will. Great name.

@Flymeaway4 did you have a Rory?

LiquoriceAllsorts2 · 08/05/2023 05:44

not all names get shortened. It’s alright pretty short so might not.

ZoraMipha · 08/05/2023 05:52

I know a Rory that gets shortened to Ror. I think it's quite common so if you hate it, maybe not the best name to go for.

Wallywobbles · 08/05/2023 06:07

Rozza

rosegoldivy · 08/05/2023 06:15

Our Rory is Roars and then Rory boy.

Second one defeats the purpose 🤣🤣

Climbingthelaundrymountain · 08/05/2023 06:25

Ror or Rors is the only way we shorten our Rory's name.

ThomasinaLivesHere · 08/05/2023 06:30

Perhaps I went to a boring school but most people were just known as their full name even when there’s well known ways to shorten names.

Spanielsarepainless · 08/05/2023 06:41

My name has never been shortened. Of almost everyone I know a Christopher is the only one who has (to Chris, obviously). I know an Alexander who is always that. If you and your family never shorten it, no one else will or he'll correct them, as Alexander does (he's 8!).

Skybluepinky · 08/05/2023 10:05

Just reminds me of Haven Holidays and the Tiger Club, but it’d probably be shorted to Roy.

Flymeaway4 · 08/05/2023 10:45

We had a baby girl, so no Rory dilemma in the end!
