What would Rory get shortened to

I often hear that every name ends up being shortened, especially once they start school. So what would Rory get shortened to?! Roar?! I’d hate that! Anyone know a Rory and does it get shortened? If so, to what?

The2Omicronnies · 27/07/2022 22:02

I know a Rory and we call him “Roars”, so we’ve actually managed to lengthen it 🤦‍♀️😂

Luredbyapomegranate · 27/07/2022 22:03

Cas112 · 27/07/2022 22:03

Nugg · 27/07/2022 22:04

My Rory is Ro. Roz. Rozzer

Mostly rory and I still love it now he's adult!

Itsthelookitsthelook · 27/07/2022 22:05

I know an adult Rory who mostly goes by Raw (he spells it that way/uses the shortening himself.)

alnawire · 27/07/2022 22:06

I know one who is Roo

PinkButtercups · 27/07/2022 22:07

We had a Rory in our secondary school (same year) it never got shortened.

Circleofshells · 27/07/2022 22:09

Roar, he’ll like it when he’s a teen even if you don’t!

notangelinajolie · 27/07/2022 22:09

cafedesreves · 27/07/2022 22:09

junebirthdaygirl · 27/07/2022 22:17

The two l know never gets shortened. One is 28 and the other is 60. Lovely name

HorseOutside · 27/07/2022 22:23

Mine was Roo as a child, if it's shortened now it's Ror.

Flymeaway4 · 27/07/2022 22:24

@Luredbyapomegranate is it though? Has been mid 30’s on the baby names list for the last 2 years, unless you know something I don’t?

I guess I’ve heard worse nicknames than roar for a boy. It definitely doesn’t shorten well though and I would rather one that shortens (just my preference). Thanks everyone!

got a family member called Rory and they get:

Ro
Roro
Roar
Roo

CaveMum · 27/07/2022 22:30

I know a Ruairi (Celtic version of Rory). He’s known as Roo.

Goesbothways · 27/07/2022 22:32

I call the one I know, Roars.

bloominglovelyorange · 28/07/2022 15:03

@Luredbyapomegranate @Flymeaway4

it is quite popular and it's popularity is still rising though is now at a plateau (see link)

names.darkgreener.com/#rory

I think it feels more popular than it is as there's a lot of popular trendy Ro names like Ronnie and Roman (which is top fastest rising boy names). It's a nice enough name though

Chillypetal · 28/07/2022 15:04

My friend Rory calls himself Roar Roar or Rozza 😂

PuffinMcStuffin · 28/07/2022 15:05

The Rory I know gets called 'The Roratron' 😁

Friffle · 28/07/2022 15:07

My brother is called Rory and 97% of the time he's known as...Rory.

Otherwise yes, he does get Roar the odd time.

GreenManalishi · 28/07/2022 15:10

I know a Rory and he's
Ror, Roo and Ro

TimBoothseyes · 28/07/2022 15:24

PuffinMcStuffin · 28/07/2022 15:05

The Rory I know gets called 'The Roratron' 😁

Hardly a "shortened" version of a 4 letter name is it?

pinklavenders · 28/07/2022 15:31

As someone who struggles with the letter R, Rory is difficult to pronounce.... hopefully your dc won't struggle with it.

But nicknames? Probably Ror..?
