What are the most common names your personally know?

Forget what the statistics tell you, what are the most popular names your know personally.

For me all baby and preschooler boys I know seem to be Harry, Freddie or Leo. There are also a few Henry’s.

Girls I’m surprise I still know a few Isabelle/Izzy’s also surprisingly a couple of Margots! And loads of Ellie’s but all short for different things. Apart from that the girls are more mixed though.

I know folk who picked popular names, like Jack or Grace, because they were afraid to go against the grain. They actually liked other names more...

That’s so weird! What were they afraid of?

You know multiple Lily-Mae and Daisy-Maes?

You don’t? 😂 For a while Lily-May & Daisy-May & Gracie-May were so so popular that I knew at least three of each in various spellings, and probably up to 10 Lily Mays in different spellings. Although I suppose it depends what you do doesn’t it? I worked in childcare and schools plus have my own four so know a lot of kids. But if you have one small baby and work in an office you’re maybe less likely to know a lot of small children overall.

Multiple variations on the Eva/Evie/Ava/Ada, Myla/Lyla/Lyra/Lara/Layla and Lily/Millie/Tilly themes.

Isla
Arya/Aria
Clara

Noah
Theo/Leo
Daniel

Fewer repeats in the boys’ names, actually, as not as many super popular ‘groups’ of names.

Harry, Oliver, Freya, Sophia, Emilia/Emily, Arthur, Lila/Lyla, Oliver, Luna, Eva/Evie/Eve. Know several children by all these names, all under 4. I also hear the name Wren called out in the playground quite a bit although personally don't know any.

When I was a teacher, I taught millions of:

Freddie
Names with Mae or May attached
Ditto with Rose
Emily
Lily
Evelyn
Oscar
Oliver

All those children would be 12 and up now though so probably not current trends.

Isla, Isabella, Charlotte Eva/ie, Amelia, Lilah, Lily, Delilah and Ava

Henry, Teddy, Freddie, Theo, George & William

Thefruitbatdancer · 27/07/2022 09:35

Oh I forgot to include our street because they don't all go to the same schools, the names above are from dc school.

Teddy, Danny-Ray, Sammy-Ray (siblings), Lexi, Mia, Yasmin, Olivia, Lily, Maya, Savanna, Havana (siblings)

As you can see they're very different to the names from my dc school list.

Ontomatopea · 27/07/2022 09:37

Grissini50 · 27/07/2022 10:41

I'd forgotten there were 4 Islas at DD's nursery. They'd all be 6/7 now.

CaffiSaliMali · 27/07/2022 10:46

For boys lots of Henry and Harry. Also lots of names beginning with, or ending with O - Oskar, Oisín, Owen, Leo, Arlo and Jago. Or names with an O - Joseph, Thomas, John and Tommy.

Girls are more varied - Nancy, Grace, Jessica, Ellie, Ella, Isabel, Isabella, Izzy on its own, Lily/Lilia and Skye/Skylar.

Cornettoninja · 27/07/2022 10:47

I’m not really in a baby circle anymore but DD’s yr 1 had multiple George’s, Izzy’s (derivatives of Isabelle etc.), Molly’s and Amelia’s.

Blankbias · 27/07/2022 10:55

Ava, Isla, Edie, Evie, Ottilie, Mia

William, Louis, Dylan, Otis, Arlo, Rupert, Leo, Theo

Forget what the statistics tell you, what are the most popular names your know personally.

Based on the replies so far, the most common names are the most popular ones...!

Oliver, Jack, Eva, Amelia, Isla, Isabel etc etc...

Nap1983 · 27/07/2022 11:00

There were 4 Olivia’s in my DD primary class
and I know at least five boys named Oliver/Ollie

pinklavenders · 27/07/2022 11:05

I know at least 10 Olivers ranging from age 3 to 17... two actually share the same surname! Very confusing...Confused

GlitteryGreen · 27/07/2022 11:22

The only one for me would be Amelia/Emilia...I know 3 people who have called babies this in the past few years, and it's the name of my SD's best friend at school.

But I am only expecting my first now so don't have a huge frame of reference.

RuthW · 27/07/2022 12:21

Personally it's Claire but I'm 54.

Of my daughter's era it's Georgia and Emily. . She's 25 and had 7 friends called Georgia and 20% of the girls in her year were called Emily.

Now at work I get to know the names of babies born in the area. Most popular
are Mia, Eva, Evie, Ava, Lola, lyra, Layla, Isla

No idea on boys really

RuthW · 27/07/2022 12:22

Oh and Isabel, Isobel, Isabelle, Isabella, Arabella

bravotango · 27/07/2022 12:39

Boys: Henry, Finn, Rowan, Rupert, Charlie, Arlo, Oscar
Girls: Rowan, Poppy, Florence

SE13Mummy · 27/07/2022 12:41

Mine are teenagers now but the most popular names across the two age groups seem to be Izzy, Beatrice, Olivia, Ebony, Maya, Phoebe, Lyra, Klara and Amelia/Emilia.

Boys are Harry, Louis, Oscar, Felix, Henry, Jake, George... and lots of three letter names i.e. Sam, Tom, Dan, Joe etc.

Clairewentoverthemountain · 27/07/2022 16:57

Evie, Lily, Finley, Jude

Clairewentoverthemountain · 27/07/2022 16:57
