Forget what the statistics tell you, what are the most popular names your know personally.

For me all baby and preschooler boys I know seem to be Harry, Freddie or Leo. There are also a few Henry’s.

Girls I’m surprise I still know a few Isabelle/Izzy’s also surprisingly a couple of Margots! And loads of Ellie’s but all short for different things. Apart from that the girls are more mixed though.

SomeFuckingWizardry · 26/07/2022 23:43

So. Many. Isla's.

SomeFuckingWizardry · 26/07/2022 23:44

pitterypattery00 · 26/07/2022 23:44

Boys - Freddie, Max, Felix and Otis

Girls more diverse, although there's a couple of Ophelias at nursery.

A woman I know told me she chose the name Isla because she wanted something very different. I thought she was kidding but she wasn't at all. It is a very nice name though.

SomeFuckingWizardry · 26/07/2022 23:47

@Youcansaythatagainandagain it's a beautiful name, but its very confusing when you know 7 of them who were all born within about 3 years of each other!

Depends on age as through work and kids friends I know lots of kids of various ages. In my oldest two age group (10-12) there seems to be lots of Lily Rose/Lily Mae/Lily Anything, quite a few Henry, Jack, Carter, Jaiden/Kaiden, Isabella/Isabelle/Bella, Gracie, Daisy. In my younger two (8 & 6) not much different except less Jaiden/Kaiden, and for some reason loads of Charlottes!

In preschool and under Roman seems to be really popular despite never having met one till recently. Now I know loads of them. Also Ivy. In my kids age groups there are loads of Islas but I don’t know any baby Islas now but lots of Ivys. I’m not sure if Ivy has sort of ‘replaced’ Isla as a similar sound but seems ‘fresher’ to parents since it’s not used as much. I also know more than one Grayson despite never having heard it before.

Some names (Harry, Charlie, Amelia/Emilia) seem to be popular always. I know teens with those names right down to new babies.

ConstanceAlways · 26/07/2022 23:53

Noah, Evie, Harry

@Youcansaythatagainandagain

I think a lot of parents (especially first time parents) think that because they don’t know many babies. When we were expecting ds my husband kept suggesting names and saying ‘this is quite unusual’ and I had to say ‘that’s the name of every boy born this year.’ But I think parents have this thing of thinking ‘ooh Isla, there weren’t any Islas when I was growing up, that must be quite new.’ But actually it would be more unusual and standout to be a Nicole or Shannon nowadays!

All girls are Islas. And all boys are Brodies.

basilmint · 27/07/2022 00:29

Funny how little the popular names seem to have changed in the last few years. My two DCs are 10 and 12 and have names listed on here. They were pretty popular when I named them and many of my elder DC's friends names are listed above too.

My girl is Brodie! 😂 Are you Scottish by any chance?

Girls: Lily, Isla, Ellie, Ava
Boys: Harry, Harris, Jack

HelloBunny · 27/07/2022 00:35

I know folk who picked popular names, like Jack or Grace, because they were afraid to go against the grain. They actually liked other names more...

YerAWizardHarry · 27/07/2022 00:38

Had four Oliver’s at our holiday club the other day but generally the boys don’t have the same names. For girls our most popular names are Mia, Isla, Ava and Emily. (ages 5-12)

Justyouwaitandseeagain · 27/07/2022 00:43

Eva / Ava / Evie / Isla
i don't think there is any overlap in our kids class groups though which is so nice! No kids having to be known as 'first name and last initial'
