Hello there,

thanks what do you prefer out of:

Willow. (Too earthy?).
Skye. (Too many associations?)
Ava. (Too popular?)

I'm due soon, and love all of these names and some are more now than others and some have different perceptions but personally feel that for me and in my opinion they all could feasibly work.

id like to ask the lovely Mumsnetters as input is valuable!

my surname begins with a C and has two syllables.

thank you for your time in advance

thanks!

A short, plump willow would generate a few wry smiles I think. Risky.

Ava is lovely, very classy, and I only know two - aged 13 and 19.

Wry smiles at best

cruel taunts at worse

True. However lots of Grace’s around who are not graceful at all and one of my acquaintances was the most miserable Joy I’ve ever known.

SummerLobelia · 24/07/2022 07:07

I love Willow because it seems a soft and gentle name.

The others are not really to my taste but as you can see not everyone likes all names! So definitely choose the one you love the most.

Congratulations!!!!!

Ilovewillow · 24/07/2022 07:29

Many congratulations! I have a Willow who is nearly 14 now. I still love the name! Following on from other comments she isn't tall and is in fact short (she got my genes) but I don't think it matters. We loved it because the willow tree bends but doesn't break, a quality she certainly possesses.

MsTSwift · 24/07/2022 07:34

Willow is quite bold unless you both very tall and slim and your child is likely to be. There was a Willow at my school years ago it was a way out name then but and she was short and large and cruel people sniggered I remember feeling sorry for her. Same with Grace.

Briar250 · 24/07/2022 10:51

Many thanks everyone, sincerely such helpful feedback! Have actually decided on a name! Which is slightly different to above 😅But helped to inform of a good name I think that passes CV test, unique but relatable, and not WC initials he he!

Happy Sunday!

I like Ava

Mumofgirls2017 · 08/09/2022 21:20

I love Williw and Skye!

Icecreamandapplepie · 08/09/2022 21:26

I like Ava.

Classic. Popular has never bothered me, but then I think there are so many different names used now that popular doesn't equate to being used as much as it used to (if that makes sense!).

Congrats on your little girl

duckie3 · 08/09/2022 21:38

Willow is my favourite!

Willow is my favorite.

skye i dont like it its too gen Z for me 😂😂

ava is nice too but its popular name like u said.

Exactly this

Luredbyapomegranate · 08/09/2022 22:25

Ava - it’s popular - although not so much now - and it’s lovely

I don’t think you want WC, also Willow be unfortunate if she is not willowy, it’s a bit faddy and a bit wet
Skye is ok, but a bit faddy and gone a bit low rent

Glitterspy · 08/09/2022 22:33

Willow is nice, I’d expect a Willow’s parents to be quite crunchy (not sure if you are?) Ditto Skye, very earthy and hippy.
Ava is almost the opposite, it’s a very new-build-estatey name.

Not sure I’ve been very diplomatic there, but those are my opinions!

ChagSameachDoreen · 08/09/2022 22:34

Ava is horrible - reminds me of aviaries and bird poo.

Willow and Skye are nice.

bringbackveronicamars · 08/09/2022 22:38

They're all pretty, but Ava is a very popular name with loads of them about.

'Skyla' might be a good alternative to 'Skye' and all its associations.

Koifish · 08/09/2022 22:41

Willow, easily. Pretty name, easy to spell, a symbolism of strength, timeless, known but not too common.

Ava is lovely but blends into the Eve/Eva/Evie trend and Skye just doesn’t do it for me (even though I’m a big fan of unusual names, it feels like a basic overdone unusual name).

Whatiswrongwithmyknee · 08/09/2022 22:49

Willow is the only one I like of those. Ava is very mundane.

Daisybuttercup12345 · 08/09/2022 23:30

Ava Willow.

Summer?

Jeelypieces20storeys · 08/09/2022 23:52

Ava is popular for a reason - it is classic & beautiful

Twinsmummy1812 · 09/09/2022 00:01

I’m not sure if it’s your actual name OP but Briar is lovely!

Newuser82 · 09/09/2022 19:59

I really like both willow and Skye. I love Ava but yes I feel as if it is very popular (for good reason mind). Just depends if this bothers you or not.
