Hello there,

thanks what do you prefer out of:

Willow. (Too earthy?).
Skye. (Too many associations?)
Ava. (Too popular?)

I'm due soon, and love all of these names and some are more now than others and some have different perceptions but personally feel that for me and in my opinion they all could feasibly work.

id like to ask the lovely Mumsnetters as input is valuable!

my surname begins with a C and has two syllables.

thank you for your time in advance

thanks!

Willow is lovely. Just lovely. I love nature and tree names though like Willow, Hazel, Rowan.

MyDogsTheBestDog · 22/07/2022 21:11

As another poster said, Ada is pretty good

Newuser82 · 22/07/2022 21:19

Love willow and Skye! Not as keen on Ava although it is a pretty name.

maryanne22 · 22/07/2022 21:30

Willow

EspressoPatronum · 22/07/2022 21:36

Willow my favourite from your list.

Might I throw Ayla into the mix?

jammiewhammie65 · 22/07/2022 21:49

Willow is cute. How about summer ?

WudYouSayItInRealLife · 22/07/2022 22:08

They are all very pretty names

Willow. (Too earthy?). I'd worry about having a non-willow'y child and it's a definite no because of The WC issue.
Skye. (Too many associations?). I don't know any associations 🤷🏻‍♀️. It's a nice name.
Ava. (Too popular?). It's pretty but I think it's too popular for my taste

A PP's suggestion of Skyla is very nice.

CatherinedeBourgh · 22/07/2022 22:12

Willow. My favourite girl's name after Rowan.

Add a middle name if you want to avoid the WC issue.

laalaaleelee · 22/07/2022 22:14

Ava gets my vote

WimpoleHat · 22/07/2022 22:19

I can’t bear Willow. I always think it’s a dog’s name! Don’t like Skye either; I always think “Isle of…”. Ava is at least a proper name, albeit very much of the moment.

Mumofgirls2017 · 22/07/2022 22:45

Skye
willow
ava

that order

like all, but Ava bit boring

Scirocco · 23/07/2022 03:32

Congratulations!

They're all nice names. From your list, I'd go for Skye. Ava (and variants) is very popular, and Willow has the unfortunate 'WC' initial combination, which kids are almost certain to pick up on.

If you like Skye, you might like Iona, Isla, Ailsa, Fiona, Eilidh...

msssm · 23/07/2022 04:01

Willow. Congrats op 💐

Didjesuspoop · 23/07/2022 04:46

ah bless you, how exciting! I love all of them but think willow is my favourite. But I could be biased because I know a willow and she’s just the cutest little thing 😍

dontdrinkanddriveok · 22/07/2022 14:14

I love Ava Willow

What she said!
Congratulations on your baby!
Ava Willow is a great choice.

sashh · 23/07/2022 05:00

I love Willow

Pifflewiffle · 23/07/2022 05:08

Willow could be hard to live with if she was short and chunky. I’m tiny with big boobs and am stocky so I’d have really struggled with Willow or Grace.

Ava I like.

sky/Skye could become dated I think

Ohthatsexciting · 23/07/2022 06:00

Giving a child the name “Willow” is like trying to thrust a particular personality on the child.

Soft, floaty, ethereal, day dreamy.

Also - what is you child is short, and curvy or even develops and eating order and becomes obese. An obese short woman names “Willow” would be cruel

dontdrinkanddriveok · 23/07/2022 07:14

Purplecatshopaholic · 22/07/2022 14:26

All beautiful names op. Ava is veeeerrryyy popular though, so I’d go with Willow first choice, then Skye.

It's funny isn't it? I know a lot of Willows, a handful of Skye's but have never met an Ava.

pinkandyellowmarshmallow · 23/07/2022 07:16

I like all of them but I think a PP made a good point about the initials WC! That would definitely put me off Willow.

I’d go with Ava I think.

gogohmm · 23/07/2022 07:39

Just do the cv test for any name, if they get a first from Oxford and are applying for a job at a top law firm - would their name be a hindrance, would you choose a solicitor with that name or think subconsciously they are not as good? May sound dramatic but I've sifted cvs, out of the thousands received only 10% get interviews and everyone has a good degree, I admit cutesy names got discarded. I'm not saying it's right but it's how my boss did it

PaniDomu · 23/07/2022 07:47

Ava - there are sooo many. But if you love it, use it.
Willow - DD’s friend got called Pussy (as in pussy willow) by boys at school.
Skye - I’ve never met one I’ve liked, but I think it’s fine as a name.

pitterypattery00 · 23/07/2022 08:12

Congratulations OP! (I also became a first time mum in my 40s so can relate!)

I'm not one to usually get hung up on initials but agree with PP that you might want to avoid WC.

Of the three names, I'd most like to be called Ava. It's a lovely name.

Other names with similar-ish sound:
Eva, Ada, Ailsa, Alba, Aoife

FlamingoDust · 23/07/2022 08:30

Willow and Skye are lovely. Personally I think Ava is boring and overused especially with the influx recently of similar sounding Ada's

GreenClock · 24/07/2022 00:41

A short, plump willow would generate a few wry smiles I think. Risky.

Ava is lovely, very classy, and I only know two - aged 13 and 19.
