I thought we were settled on a name, but I’m having a huge rethink! I feel like any names 100%

So, no extra critique of these names please, I’m already too critical! I need you to try and persuade me that one of these names is the one, please😅

All new suggestions very much appreciated, too.

Penelope
Elizabeth

Clementine
Florence
Elodie
Francesca

That should say: I feel like I don’t like any names 100%

I can’t, sorry.

Borracha · 21/07/2022 12:08

Francesca.
Not that widely used, but not a name that would make people say 'eh?'
Can be shortened to Chess/Chessie which sounds quite soft and elegant or Frankie which sounds a bit cooler

hedgehoglurker · 21/07/2022 12:11

Elodie and Florence are my favourites. All lovely names, you can't go wrong!

Pemba · 21/07/2022 12:13

I don't particularly like Florence or Penelope but at least they are classic names.
The others are all beautiful though, why can't you pick one?

I'd possibly go for Francesca, lovely and elegant, or the very classic Elizabeth with its huge choice of short forms, Lizzie, Libby, Eliza, Beth, Betsy etc etc.

RubyandPearl · 21/07/2022 12:16

I actually really like Elizabeth because it has so many shortened versions that your daughter can choose when she gets older. Lysbeth is also pretty. Good luck x

ApolloandDaphne · 21/07/2022 12:22

I like all of those names. My favourite is Francesca I think.

Pemba · 21/07/2022 12:23

Other suggestions :

Susannah
Madeleine
Marianne
Eleanor
Helena
Phoebe
Chloe
Zoe

Twizbe · 21/07/2022 12:24

I love Elizabeth. It's timeless, works for any age, has a ton of nicknames and shortened forms.

That said, wait until baby is here. When you see her one of these might just jump out as being her name.

Hoowhoowho · 21/07/2022 12:29

All lovely straightforward names but I’d go for Elizabeth, definitely won’t date, loads of short forms from the cutesy (Betsy) to the plain (Beth/Liz). Works internationally, name for any job role at all and any personality. Few people have a strong impression of it, so no pre conceptions. Works across class boundaries. You can be an aristocratic Elizabeth or a working class Elizabeth.

averythinline · 21/07/2022 12:30

Really nice list of names...
Francesca, Elizabeth and Clementine favourites .
We had a list of 3 and decided on arrival....you could with all of yours.... try 1 a week and see what fits..

Or write on bits of paper...put in a bowl and pick one...
If your disappointed...chuck it and try again!

SnowdropsInSpring · 21/07/2022 12:32

I like Florence and Elodie best because they are easier to use the name as it is without a shortening (I’m not a fan of people automatically shortening names - they name owner is the one who needs to decide that).

emmathedilemma · 21/07/2022 12:36

My order of preference would be:
Florence
Elizabeth
Penelope
Clementine
Elodie
Francesca
Also think about potential nicknames as if you don't like Flo, Florrie, Liz, Lizzie, Clemmie, Penny, Fran, Frankie etc then it might rule some out.
Why don't you wait until she's born, one might naturally seem to suit her more than the others?
Suggestions for alternatives:
Constance / Connie
Eliza
Alice
Felicity
Matilda
Tabitha
Louisa
Martha
Charlotte
Hannah
Victoria

DogsAndGin · 21/07/2022 12:58

Wow thank you so much! You’ve made me feel a lot better about our names. DH doesn’t pronounce Elizabeth very well, which is why it’s not my absolute fave. I think I’m leaning towards Florence now! 😅 There’s some brilliant new name suggestions in there too - thank you so much. @averythinline yes I think we’ll do that and wait til she comes until we absolutely decide. The names in a bowl idea is brilliant too!

A nice list of names, I don’t think you can go far wrong with any of those. They will all probably be shortened at some point so maybe think about whether or not you like the potential nicknames (remember it might not be your choice). My favourite is Francesca, I love Frankie as a nickname for a girl.

Theoldwoman · 21/07/2022 13:28

Francesca is one of my favourites.

Others are:

Laura
Lucille
Alice
Amelia
Olive
Charlotte
Kate
Genevieve
Juliet
Caroline

darlingdodo · 21/07/2022 14:15

Elizabeth or Francesca.

HorsingAround2022 · 21/07/2022 14:43

I love Clementine, it’s top of my list if we have a second daughter.

KirstenBlest · 21/07/2022 14:46

The ones I'd talk you out out of are Elodie and Clementine. One is dull and the other too satsuma.
Penelope, Florence and Francesca are OK.

Elizabeth is the clear winner. It's the year of the platinum jubilee and it's an elegant and classy name that is never fashionable or unfashionable.
It can be shortened, and has plenty of options, but it doesn't have to be shortened. You can't go wrong with it.

Purpleavocado · 21/07/2022 14:46

I like Penelope (Penny) and Francesca (Chessy not Frannie!)

uncomfortablydumb53 · 21/07/2022 14:46

Elodie is my favourite
Along the same lines are
Elowen
Eleri

ThatsNotMyMuffin · 21/07/2022 14:59

I have a Francesca and get some many compliments on the name. It's easy to pronounce, works internationally and has so many nicknames to suit their personality: Fran, Frannie, Frankie, Cesca, Chessie. I really like Penelope and Elizabeth for similar reasons too.

KirstenBlest · 21/07/2022 15:04

@uncomfortablydumb53, Eleri and Elowen aren't like Elodie other than they start with El. Eleri is the welsh form of Hilary and pronounced El-erry (Not Eller-y), Elown is cornish and means elm, IIRC and is pronounced El Owen. Elodie is french

perimenofertility · 21/07/2022 15:09

Florence is a beautiful name, and the city of Florence is a beautiful place, so that would be my choice. Florrie is a cute nickname too. Second choice would be Elodie which sounds pretty.

Mumofgirls2017 · 21/07/2022 17:18

All lovely. I love Clementine. A bit whimsical but somehow sophisticated too, suits an adult and child; good nn potential
