Talk me into one of these names

I thought we were settled on a name, but I’m having a huge rethink! I feel like any names 100%

So, no extra critique of these names please, I’m already too critical! I need you to try and persuade me that one of these names is the one, please😅

All new suggestions very much appreciated, too.

Penelope
Elizabeth

Clementine
Florence
Elodie
Francesca

Penelope, I wish I’d called my daughter Penelope and would have shortened it to Nell / Nellie.

salharg · 21/07/2022 17:33

Francesca is beautiful! I love the name Frankie for a girl not so much for a boy though.

NessieMcNessface · 21/07/2022 18:08

I love them all apart from Francesca; but clearly that name is very popular with other posters. My favourite is Florence as I just think the name is beautiful and it makes me think of Italy; Elizabeth would be my second choice.

angieloumc · 21/07/2022 18:13

They're all very pretty (DD has Elizabeth as her middle name) but I really do like Florence as well.
What about;
Clemency
Verity
Ophelia.
Makes me remember the days of choosing a name for baby. It was easy with my DS's but harder with DD. Until she was born she was going to be Isabel, now she's Molly. Though I must admit there are more dogs around called Molly than teenage girls 🙂

RockinHorseShit · 21/07/2022 18:18

Elodie is lovely

StellaOlivetti · 21/07/2022 18:23

The only one I wouldn’t use is Elodie because I have a feeling it’s very of the moment, in a way the others (all gorgeous in my opinion) aren’t. If Clementine is too satsuma, do you like Clemency? I read an Agatha Christie where a character was called that, and thought it so beautiful and unusual.

WinterMusings · 21/07/2022 18:31

It's difficult when you asked for no comment on why NOT certain names!

im going to give myself a pass on this comment though!! If DH doesn't say Elizabeth nicely I'd swerve that UNLESS you can agree on an every day name (Beth??)

Florence is a handed down family name for me, if I was choosing from your list it would be Elodie Florence.

Mammyloveswine · 21/07/2022 18:31

Elodie is beautiful

Jelly4444 · 21/07/2022 18:38

Elodie is cute but I agree with the other posters - Elizabeth is a timeless classic. You can't go wrong with it.

ProperVexed · 21/07/2022 18:46

Clementine is beautiful. It was my choice but I had 2 boys. Marvellous under used name.

AliBaliBears · 21/07/2022 19:04

The only one I personally don't like is Penelope. I don't think you can go wrong with any of these names OP.

Do any of them go particularly well/badly with your surname?

I always think it's useful to consider which of the names you'd like to have yourself. Imagine you had to introduce yourself right now to a stranger, 'Hi I'm ............'. Of your names, I think I'd most like to say 'Hi, I'm Florence'.

Beamur · 21/07/2022 19:07

There will never be a better year to use Elizabeth!
I really like Clementine.
Love Francesca too.

itssquidstella · 21/07/2022 19:33

They're all nice names. Penelope and Elodie are very popular at the moment so I wouldn't personally use them.

Clementine (Clemmie) and Francesca (Frankie) are my favourites - absolutely love these names!

Fivebeanchilli · 21/07/2022 19:42

Penelope - this is my least favourite but it's still a nice name. The thing I don't like about it is that I look at it and see PENNY- lope rather than pen-ELL-oh-pee. But I know that's silly
Elizabeth - I really like this. I like all the nn options
Clementine - I like this too
Florence - I love this
Elodie - I really like this too
Francesca - it's ok

Florence and Elodie are my favourites...

daisypond · 21/07/2022 20:31

I generally like them all. The worst are Elodie and Florence.

CormoranStrike · 21/07/2022 20:33

Penelope LOVE

Elizabeth A BIT FORGETTABLE

Clementine OKAY

Florence NOT FOR ME

Elodie NOT FOR ME

Francesca LOVE

I would suggest

Caroline

Juliet

Grace

Goodnewsday · 22/07/2022 00:30

Trying my best not to add any critique 🙈 I think if you need talked into them then none of them are ‘it’. what about Ottilie? It feels like it a along the same lines, or Everley?

babyjellyfish · 22/07/2022 10:03

Elizabeth.

Absolute stone cold classic, not actually that common as a first name these days, tons of nickname options.

Bunny2006 · 22/07/2022 17:09

I'm an Elizabeth and I like it for the reasons mentioned, but I feel I myself don't pronounce it well/find it clumsy to say 😂Out of interest how does your DH pronounce it?
But I still like it, I also like Francesca and Florence. I do like Clementine but wouldn't be brave enough to use it round here

Sockwomble · 22/07/2022 18:19

My favourite is Elizabeth then Florence.

ariesalien · 22/07/2022 19:47

To be honest, I love them all except Elodie - for the reason that they have a range of cute/unique nicknames to go along with them.

17caterpillars1mouse · 22/07/2022 20:11

Elizabeth - classic name with so many NN options but also a lovely name on its own. Sounds classy

Clementine - I imagine a cute little toddler with curly hair running around asking inquisitive questions being called Clemmie

Florence - Florrie or Flossie if she's a bit bossy :) always makes me think of Florence and the Machine which isn't a bad thing

Francesca - Chesca is a really studious girl, Frankie more sociable. Everybody likes a Francesca

Lavendersblue42 · 22/07/2022 21:46

Had a similar dilemma - had a shortlist of 3 girls first names I wasn’t 100% sure on, daughter was born and none of them fit her. Thankfully hubby had his own list from which we chose Francesca! She is awesome so obviously her name gets my vote 😊

craggydragon · 22/07/2022 22:47

They're all nice but I'd choose Francesca

20viona · 22/07/2022 22:51

Elodie
