Eleven, girls name?

SummaLuvin · 14/07/2022 19:13

Watching Stranger Things and it has got me thinking whether the name Eleven could break through as a semi-mainstream girls name. It invites diminutives already common girls names - Elle and Ellie - making it seem less out there, easy to pronounce and spell as an existing word, and it's nice sonically. Also, my prediction on names trends is that we will move away for vowel heavy liquid consonant names to harder sounding names which this fits. What do people think?

Ridiculous

KangarooKenny · 14/07/2022 19:14

I doubt it, One hasn’t taken off yet.

But Seven has. If you're a Beckham.

Fedthefuckup22 · 14/07/2022 19:20

The poor kid would be bullied

crumpet · 14/07/2022 19:21

Will be massively dated in a few years. But like the rash of Kylies in the early 90s.

SpaceJamtart · 14/07/2022 19:28

Feels a bit like when people called their daughters Khaleessi,

whenwillthemadnessend · 14/07/2022 19:33

No.
Maybe a Mike and Nancy Jonathan and Steve but eleven. Can't see it.

There are a lot of Jacob's Esmes jaspers etc from twilight series that are now teens but these names are still acceptable.

Windbeneathmybingowings · 14/07/2022 19:36

I always liked the names Wednesday and Tuesday. Eleven is no different but it’s the timing that will make it flash in the pan and dated.

Arya was the one that mostly took off round here, you could tell who watched Game of Thrones

lonelydad2022 · 14/07/2022 19:38

Poor child. Why subject a child to a life of bullying because the parents were bored and want an exotic name. You can change your name by deed poll. How about you change it to twelve?

LouisRenault · 14/07/2022 19:42

But Seven has. If you're a Beckham.

Or a Borg.

The timing 🤣

"Vowel heavy liquid consonant names to harder sounding names"

Huhhhh?

Eleven in no way is harder sounding and I think would be a very poor name choice 🙈🙈🙈

toastofthetown · 14/07/2022 19:47

I can't see if for this generation of babies. I think if it does take off, it will be teens now who hear the name, earmark it for the future ad then are surprised when everyone else had the same idea - much like Lyra and Luna today. There were three Elevens in 2018 though.

I think (or more likely, hope) that that El- names will start to feel dated before Eleven has the chance to take off. Ella and Ellie to me already feel so tired and dull I'm genuinely surprised that enough people find them appealing enough to still be popular. I think sonically, Eleven has enough features of popular names today to hold it back: heavy on L and V sounds, N ending trendy in current boys names. But I think in future trends will be ever quicker and move on faster, and fewer and fewer babies will be given the top names, so an Eleven micro trend is possible. I can see it stopping as soon as other people realise it's popular though I think trends in general move on faster too and maybe as Stranger Things isn't a beloved childhood book series the reference will feel naff than nostalgic: more Daenerys than Lyra.

Even the beckhams only inflicted that as a middle name.

thequeenoftheandals · 14/07/2022 19:58

Arya is actually a really popular South Asian name.

Wasn't it Jacob Rees-Mogg that ran out of names and started numbering his children?

GeorgiaGirl52 · 14/07/2022 20:14

First name Seven. Middle name Eleven.
Seven Eleven is very popular in USA.😂

iklboo · 14/07/2022 20:15

Oh come on OP. Just no.

TreePoser · 14/07/2022 20:16

No. I can't see that taking off. There might be a couple of people crazy enough but not enough to make it a trend.

I like some nouns as names like Wednesday and Red, January, Winter.... Some of these nouns sound workable as names but there's something so impersonal about using a number!

SummaLuvin · 14/07/2022 20:16

I always gave Arya something of a free pass, while many of the babies named that were undoubtedly inspired by the show, it’s basically Aria which is a well established name already, so not created for the show, Khaleesi on the other hand, is a little cringe inducing. Interesting to learn Arya is a South Asian name, makes more sense now that Meera Sodha named her baby that (I assumed GoT).

Maybe I put too much emphasis in the second syllable, but the ‘Venn’ sound is hard to my ears, which, while not a hard as Bridget or Carmen, it’s definitely more so than Lia, Arabella, Sophie…

Not planning to name a child that, I was just curious what the forum made of the name, similar to the thread about Ed Sheerans baby. I saw Eleven was used 3 times a couple of years ago, and all names start somewhere.

I quite like Eleven as a name... Its my lucky number, my birthdate, and the number I played in football...I'm not having more kids though !

KirstenBlest · 14/07/2022 20:17

Vowel heavy liquid consonant names to harder sounding names

Look at how long names like Olivia, Violet, Eva, Evelyn, Lily and the like have been popular. Evelyn and Eleven are very similar in terms of sound and letters.

dailymailwillrotyoursoul · 14/07/2022 20:18

I quite like it as a name actually but wouldn't dare, not because of other people but in case my child was annoyed by it!

Saucery · 14/07/2022 20:18

No. The whole point of the ‘name’ is that she has been depersonalized and tattooed with it (with all the connotations that has). It’s not quirky, it’s horrible.
