Having a wobble on chosen name (have included in list below) have 3 other girls with traditional names with perhaps a slightly modern vibe to them but suit all ages etc

madeleine (pronounced line not Lyn)
annie (just Annie not Anna or anne)
phoebe (only issue is this is dds 3 middle name but she doesn’t mind)
violet (I love Violet but dislike nn Vi which I think rules this out for us but it will be a middle name)
evelyn (pronounced ever-Lyn not eve-Lyn)
ruby
Nancy & Betsy (I’m unsure on these I think they’re lovely but not sure if she’d thank me)

thank you

I like Phoebe, Madeline (though not sure on -line pronunciation), Ruby, Violet.

ReeseWitherfork · 11/07/2022 10:30

Annie for me!!

I don’t think any of them are bad though. Although I’m sorry to say Madeleine still makes me think McCann.

LunchPoems · 11/07/2022 10:34

Don’t give her the same name as sister’s muddle name, when there are so many names to choose from.

I’d spell it Madeline, with that pronunciation? It’s nice.

I love Violet. Big fan of a flower name 😊

B0ssAssB1tch · 11/07/2022 10:36

Annie, violet (nn Vivi?) and Evelyn are my favourites.

Don't use Phoebe, she should have a name that's just hers.

Beamur · 11/07/2022 10:38

I know girls called Ruby, Nancy and Betsy and they're great names.
You could also have Lettie as a nn to Violet?
I wouldn't use Phoebe.

Digimoor · 11/07/2022 10:39

Avoid the ones where you want a particular pronunciation - you will be forever correcting people

est1899 · 11/07/2022 10:40

Madeleine is not pronounced madeline. It's more like Mad-eh-leeene. It's a French.M interpretation of a Greek name - Magdalene. That show that spelling works.

Nancy or Phoebe are my favorite out of your options. My gran was a Nancy and she was lovely so it has good memories for me. I've never known a mean Nancy actually

SickSadWorId · 11/07/2022 10:50

I like Annie best - pretty, uncomplicated, no pronunciation issues.

Dreamingof3 · 11/07/2022 10:50

I dislike Ruby and phoebe because where I live they're pronounced a bit more -bay at the end 🙊
Love Nancy and violet (vee or lettie)

KirstenBlest · 11/07/2022 10:55

madeleine (pronounced line not Lyn) - nobody will say it as Made-line
annie (just Annie not Anna or anne) - fine
phoebe (only issue is this is dds 3 middle name but she doesn’t mind) - fine
violet (I love Violet but dislike nn Vi which I think rules this out for us but it will be a middle name) - ok
evelyn (pronounced ever-Lyn not eve-Lyn) - I don't like it. Too many Eva type names popular
ruby - ok
Nancy & Betsy (I’m unsure on these I think they’re lovely but not sure if she’d thank me) - both ok

Annie is my favourite from the list

chilledbubble · 11/07/2022 10:57

madeleine (pronounced line not Lyn) not a fan and you'll have to keep correcting people.

annie (just Annie not Anna or anne) I like this, I know a little one with the name and it suits her.

phoebe (only issue is this is dds 3 middle name but she doesn’t mind) no I wouldn't choose this one if its DDS middle name.

violet (I love Violet but dislike nn Vi which I think rules this out for us but it will be a middle name) yeah this is a good middle name

evelyn (pronounced ever-Lyn not eve-Lyn) no, you'll be correcting pronunciation.

ruby depends on your accent. I think Ruby Violet isn't a great combo. I like Ruby though.

Nancy & Betsy (I’m unsure on these I think they’re lovely but not sure if she’d thank me) I think Nancy is good actually. Betsy no.

Amdone123 · 11/07/2022 11:02

I love Annie, too.
I wouldn't choose Phoebe, for reason stated.
I love Evelyn.
Violet probably would get Vi, somewhere down the line.
I like Nancy. Betsy is quite popular, but I do like it.
Martha ?

Belephant · 11/07/2022 11:08

Madeleine is the wrong spelling if you want it pronounced Madeline, no?

SpaceJamtart · 11/07/2022 11:24

I like Violet, Evelyn and Nancy

I wouldnt re use phoebe, would spell it Madeline to be pronounced how you want it. And tbh I really wouldn't thank you for Betsy

YouSoundLovely · 11/07/2022 11:29

Madel(e)ine, Annie and Phoebe are nice.

Violet and Evelyn are faddy currently and I don't like them much. (Possibly partly influenced by living in a country where Evelyn is still very much in the local equivalent of the Barbara/Janice/Maureen category)

Nancy is sort of sweet but I don't like Ruby or Betsy. If you're going to go for Betsy, I do think the birth cert name should be Elizabeth.

Kanaloa · 11/07/2022 11:31

They’re all nice enough names. The only one I’d be really against would be Phoebe - you’ve already used it so I would give the new baby her own name. I would maybe reconsider Madeleine as well because with that spelling I don’t think it will be said how you want. Similar with Violet - I wouldn’t choose a name if I didn’t like a common shortening of that name.

Nancy & Betsy aren’t as unusual as you’d think nowadays. I’ve looked after several girls named Nancy and a couple of Betsys. Those types of names are back now. Nancy is particularly nice I think. Annie & Evelyn are nice names too. Ruby is cute but I’ve just looked after so many of them that it seems tired to me!

AdaColeman · 11/07/2022 11:39

I like Violet and Ruby. You could use Letti as a nn instead of Vi.

I'm not keen on the other names, especially Annie Nancy and Betsy. You are going to be continually disappointed if you use names with alternative pronunciations where you only like one of the choices.

LunchPoems · 11/07/2022 11:46

There’s no need for names to be shortened or have a nickname! I have a name which is commonly shortened, but never has been. People ask me if I’m nn x or y, I say no, that’s it. So Violet could just be Violet

Ilikecheeseontoast · 11/07/2022 11:47

I love all of your name choices!

Bouledeneige · 11/07/2022 11:57

I like Evelyn best (but you're an optimist if you think people will pronounce it that way) - I'm sure most people would say it either as Ev-lin or Eve-lin. The latter is really exactly how it's spelt.

My other preferences are Ruby or Madeleine ( pronounced Mad-a-len). But I don't like the Shortening to Maddy.

What about Elodie as an alternative?

PancakesWithCheese · 11/07/2022 12:53

Typed out a long reply but it bloody well disappeared.

Evelyn is overdone, and she’ll just be yet another Evie.

I like Madeleine.

pogostickplastique · 11/07/2022 15:56

What about Lettie as nn for Violet?

17caterpillars1mouse · 11/07/2022 16:00

Madeleine (pronounced line not Lyn) - if you want Line then you need to spell it Madeline. All the Madeleine's I've met and Lyn or Len

Annie (just Annie not Anna or anne) - I really like it

Phoebe (only issue is this is dds 3 middle name but she doesn’t mind) - DD might not mind but the new baby might. Give her her own name

Violet (I love Violet but dislike nn Vi which I think rules this out for us but it will be a middle name) - not a fan.

Evelyn (pronounced ever-Lyn not eve-Lyn) - pretty but popular, even more so if you count all the Evie's too

Ruby - I like it
Nancy & Betsy (I’m unsure on these I think they’re lovely but not sure if she’d thank me) - Nancy has really taken off in my area but I'm not a fan. I quite like Betsy but only as a NN for Elizabeth or Elspeth / Elsbeth. My DD always calls herself Betsy in pretend play roles

17caterpillars1mouse · 11/07/2022 16:02

Just to add in my area (the Midlands) all Evelyn's are Ever-lyn automatically. Nobody would go with the Eve-lyn pronunciation at first glance, though I know this differs in other areas

Eek3under3 · 11/07/2022 16:05

I have a 2 year old Annie so that’s my favourite! Madeleine was also on my list. I like Ruby and Betsy. Would avoid Phoebe as you’ve used that already. Don’t like Evelyn.
