Not in Italy.

GrumpyPanda · 04/07/2022 05:43

Yes.

Geamhradh · 04/07/2022 05:44

Maddalena and Serafina tbh would be considered very very old lady in Italy. I've never met a Serafina, and know a handful of Maddalenas all of whom shorten it to Magda. They're all in their forties and fifties and I'd imagine most were Ned after their grandmothers.

In a non Italian context, I'd imagine they'd be seen as less old-fashioned.

Geamhradh · 04/07/2022 05:45

No idea who Ned is. Probably their brother.
*named, obvs.

SeasonFinale · 04/07/2022 05:46

Yes

SycamoreTall · 04/07/2022 08:29

I know two Serafinas in the UK - 40ish and a toddler. Suits them both!

toastofthetown · 04/07/2022 08:38

Individually definitely not. Maybe swayed as I’ve worked in areas with a lot of Polish people but Magdalena seems like a very common name to me. As sisters they are both very long, and the effect is a lot, but I still wouldn’t say it’s too much. I imagine one or both would be using a nickname most of the time by the times they’re eight or so.

myriama · 04/07/2022 10:32

Magdalena is very common in the Polish community as PP is pointed out. Often shortened to Magda or Lena. I don't think it's too much, unless you live somewhere where almost everyone has short English names, or something.

I know of Serafina through His Dark Materials but I've never actually encountered it in real life.

Bluevelvetsofa · 04/07/2022 10:43

Depends on the last name too. Lots of syllables.

greenacrylicpaint · 04/07/2022 10:44

both as one name- yes too much

each of them are fine and have cute nick names.

SoftSheen · 04/07/2022 10:45

I think they're both fine. Perhaps not if you have a very long or double-barrelled surname.

shivawn · 04/07/2022 10:47

They're fine if you like them. I know a couple Magdalenas, both in their 20's and both Polish.

neverwinternights · 04/07/2022 10:50

I love both names, they are not too much. But obviously nickname is expected. I dislike trend for short names, it seems people are avoiding beautiful longer names for bad reasons.

ofwarren · 04/07/2022 10:52

I like both names. I wouldn't use them together with one as a middle name though.

Purplecatshopaholic · 04/07/2022 10:56

Yes. Sorry

AppleHa · 04/07/2022 10:56

Do you mean are they too much together as sisters, as first name and middle name, or are you considering one of the two?
Because my answers would be no, maybe, no (to the question "are they too much")
Personally I like Seraphina and am not keen on Magdelena, partly because I have to fight reading it as Maudlin-a because of the college, but that's a very specific baggage I am bringing to the name!

pinklavenders · 04/07/2022 11:11

Do you mean Magdalena Seraphina Surname?

I like both names a lot, but perhaps a shorter middle name works better?

FAQs · 04/07/2022 11:21

A little bit, but I prefer your spelling @Flangelica

Flangelica · 04/07/2022 11:56

Sorry, to clarify, I don't mean used together or for siblings.

I'd just use Magdalena OR Seraphina with a different middle name. Their siblings have different names so wouldn't be used for siblings either.

No. They are totally different names

emmathedilemma · 04/07/2022 13:15

yes

DiamanteDelia · 04/07/2022 13:16

I absolutely love them both.

Buythebag40 · 04/07/2022 13:16

They are both lovely names - and I absolutely love the Monkees song "Me and Magdalena" - that would probably swing it for me (have a listen if you haven't heard it, it's beautiful).

suzyscat · 04/07/2022 13:21

I know a couple of primary aged Seraphinas, it's a lovely name. Nothing wrong with either.

SBAM · 04/07/2022 13:22

I know a baby serafina, I think it’s sweet. Magdalena is a pretty name too, I don’t think either are too much. There’s several girls at school with my daughter who have 3-4 syllable names and it’s not an issue.
