Yes.

If you like them, which do you prefer?

I like nicknames Maggie, Leni and Lena for Magdalena. Sera/Sephy for Seraphina (love Sephy!)

Middle name Joy.

They are both lovely names - and I absolutely love the Monkees song "Me and Magdalena" - that would probably swing it for me (have a listen if you haven't heard it, it's beautiful).

Thanks, I will You tube it now!

They don't seem like old ladies names to me either, I have worked with a few Polish Magdalena's who are all 20s/30s, I don't like Magda as a nn though.

Seraphina is beautiful and I prefer it by a long shot. Not sure I've ever meet any but the name does ring a bell.

They’re both very pretty names, I don’t think they’re too much. Like a PP I know a few toddler girls with 4 syllable first names.

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/07/2022 19:59

Seraphina - no not at all - it’s getting quite popular

Magdalena - no, but it’s more awkward to say, so I think you’d need to be realistic and settle on a short form you like - Lena, Magda, Margot are the most elegant I guess. Also obviously Magdalene has associations although much less than before.

Luredbyapomegranate · 04/07/2022 20:01

.. I’d go for Magdalena, just because I think Seraphina might become the new Sophia ie bleeding everywhere.

Maggie and Sarah are normal names

I work with Magdalena. Everyone calls her Maddie.

Magdalena is universal name as I met polish Magdalena, swedish and romanian one.

All of them have lovely, bubbly, easy going personalities.

jackstini · 04/07/2022 20:26

Both lovely names

I know 2 Magdalenas and both nn Magda

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 04/07/2022 20:44

I like them together

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 04/07/2022 20:49

Lovely. Seraphina is gorgeous. I expect a Magdalena to have an Eastern European connection though.

AssignedSlytherinAtBirth · 04/07/2022 20:49

*would expect

LittleBoPeepHasLostHerShit · 04/07/2022 20:50

I love Magdalena, it was high on my list for girl names.

MrsLargeEmbodied · 04/07/2022 20:51

i like Magda

Really! I did read on Nameberry that it's the number one searched name recently and they predict and increase in popularity but I thought "Nahhhh...."

Now I am having a wobble.

Sophia is gorgeous but to me it seems a little dull now as it's just so overdone.

I'd be gutted if that happened to one of my names!

Actually, this comment has made me realise that I like the (i thought) rareness and the meaning of the name more than I like the actual name. Whereas I think I like Magdalena for the name. So i think you have been bery helpful!

But i ADORE nicknames Sephy and Ephy and will be sad to give them up.

I think Leni is an excellent nickname 😉

SongOfHiawatha · 05/07/2022 14:46

"Magdala" might be a bit more low key. That's my aunt's middle name.

ParanoidGynodroid · 05/07/2022 15:19

I think they're both beautiful 😍

bluesky45 · 05/07/2022 15:29

Each is fine on its own. Quite a lot for siblings I would say, probably because they both end with the "eena" sound after 2 other syllables
