Any more similar vibe?

Thank you ❤

I love Fionnuala. Clodagh is nice.

I like Ailish from your list.

As someone with a very poor understanding of Irish, I noticed a fair amount of words in Scotland were similar (on the road signs), at least in the spelling when I last visited.

Lmes · 05/07/2022 08:43

Etain or Aifric .

Gaelic and gaeilge share similar words and names. In Scottish with irish heritage so I dont mind either irish or scottish.

Ive only ever met 1 milidh and it was at a baby group. It's a scottish name

I already have a fiadh

How do you say Fiadh?

Windypants21 · 24/07/2022 22:04

Ailbha, Saorise,

mathanxiety · 24/07/2022 22:45

@Iba, Fiadh rhymes with Leah.

Suggestions:
Ailbhe
Doireann
Muireann
Onora - fada on second O
Orla
Caitriona - fada on second I
Beibhinn
Siun (fada on the U), pr 'shoon'
Liadan

Sorry- can't do fadas on my phone.

mathanxiety · 24/07/2022 22:46

Also:
Marsaili

ThickCutSteakChips · 24/07/2022 22:55

I love Sadhbh and Aoibhinn. I have also grown to love Caoimhe, since it has become more popular.

It is something to consider though, if you live in the UK, that a lot of people won't be able to pronounce, or spell the name, unless it's a well known Irish name. It's all very well saying that it's prejudiced etc to find Irish names tricky, but it's your child who will have to spend a relatively large proportion of their life spelling their name out to people, telling them how to pronounce it, having stuff spelt wrong a lot and so on. Obviously it's different if you live in Ireland.

DaisyP24 · 25/07/2022 22:25

Aiobhinn

ChatterMonkey · 25/07/2022 22:28

ComfyChairPose · 02/07/2022 07:54

Nollaig

🤣🤣

Joolsin · 25/07/2022 22:29

I love Saorla (rhymes with Sarah, only with an L in there!)

SparklyAntlers · 25/07/2022 22:36

Sadhbh (rhymes with five)
Aoibhín (A-veen)
Siobhán (shuh vawn)
Síomha (shee uv ah)
Eimear (eemer)
Ciara
Niamh
Caoimhe (kwee va)
Cáit (cawtch)

If you already have a Fiadh you'll know how people around you handle the Irish spelling, but bear in mind fadas can be tricky and can cause issues on online forms etc (even in Ireland).

Dimondsareforever · 25/07/2022 22:37

I love the name Sunniva ….
it’s popular in Norway, but originated from an Irish saint.

MrsCobbit · 25/07/2022 22:45

Love Ruadh

bluekostree · 25/07/2022 22:57

Caoimhe in the north of Ireland is pronounced Kee-va

Footbal · 25/07/2022 23:06

WonderWoop · 25/07/2022 23:11

I really like Eilidh but also have a child with Irish name and not sure if mixing with Scottish Gaelic.

I've recently come across Eile but I would read it as you pronounce it in Irish (ella) and I think English people would find it confusing (if you're in England).

I like Roisin but love Roise.
Love Laoise, can't personally use it 😞
Love Caoimhe but my English DH couldn't cope with that suggestion.

Never heard of Ruadh but like it, is it a girls name though?
Are there some other takes on this, I feel like I've seen Luadh somewhere

What's the next Fiadh?

WonderWoop · 25/07/2022 23:14

Another one I like is Eabha but don't love the spelling.
Prefer the spelling of Aoibhe but sound of 'Ava'

Icanneverthinkofausername · 25/07/2022 23:15

I met an Aoife today, thought that was really pretty

Sussyknowsthemeaningoflife · 25/07/2022 23:25

Caolfhionn
Labhaoise
Gobnait
Just kidding.
Don't use any of those.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 25/07/2022 23:29

It's a pain in the arse having an Irish name no one can pronounce. I speak from experience.

itsagranddayfordrying · 25/07/2022 23:29

Laoise and Aoife are fab -I'm biased though , they're my daughters names !!

Confusion101 · 25/07/2022 23:32

Footbal · 25/07/2022 23:06

Please don't name your child Céadaoin 😂

mathanxiety · 26/07/2022 05:09

YYY, Grin @ Céadaoin.

Also Craoi, for different reasons.

Coffeaddict · 26/07/2022 05:16

We loved Aine but ended up having 2 boys

RenegadeMatron · 26/07/2022 05:27

daisypond · 02/07/2022 07:38

I understand that perfectly well. The OP said Gaelic. Gaelic always links to Scotland. Gaelige is Irish.
