Hello! Would very much appreciate hearing thoughts on DH and I's picks for our first daughter. Any ratings and opinions would be great!

Leonora - Very slightly my current fav right now. Also love Nora as nn

Rosalie - Love this. Only downside for me is Rose as nn since its just so common right now but it's not massively bothering me.

Severine - DH suggestion that we both love. We worry that she might stand out a bit with a French name being raised in Scotland? (Dh is french, I am scottish)

Circe - A weirder one but both really like it!

I'm also open to any suggestions based on the names mentioned. Thanks in advance!

How do you pronounce the last one? I work in a school and nearly said circle in my mind.

Top 3 all 'nice' names that I would see in school but not common. Think Rosalie would get called Rosie

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 16/06/2022 14:48

Sabine/ Sabina is one I've seen and liked that kind of fits in with your list

momtoboys · 16/06/2022 14:49

I love Nora.

ElenaSt · 16/06/2022 14:50

I love the first two. Not keen on the other two.

Leonora is lovely.

CoastalWave · 16/06/2022 14:51

Severine - Sevvie for short. Very pretty.

Squashedraddish · 16/06/2022 14:52

I like Nora but not leonora. Although I do like Eleanor

love Rosalie it’s so pretty and I think quite unusual. I don’t know any. I also don’t know any kids called rose/Rosie so I wouldn’t be worried about a common nickname

I don’t know how to pronounce the other 2 and don’t think they look as pretty

mumofbun · 16/06/2022 14:53

I love the first two. I know a little Rosalie and she gets called Rosie.

Severine i don't like so much but i don't think there's an issue with a French name in Scotland depending on where you live and especially if your husband is French!

I'm not sure of the pronunciation of the last one but reminds me of Cersei in game of thrones which i'm not sure is a connection i would want!

Amelie?

CaramelJones · 16/06/2022 14:54

Rosalie is lovely. Leonora is very nice too. Circe is ok but Severine just makes me think of sever and guillotines.

Cetrion · 16/06/2022 14:56

For those asking Severine is pronounced seh-vreen and Circe is pronounced sur-see

I love Leonora, although Nora is lovely too. Circe is my least favorite.

Kittykatmacbill · 16/06/2022 14:59

I love love love Nora, but not keen on the rest. i am not sure that it matters when you are at school where your name is from although it might be annoying to spelling your name to people. (I have an unspellable name and it’s annoying!)

TheLadyDIdGood · 16/06/2022 15:01

Leonara nn Nora
Rosalie/Rosalind/Rosamund/Rosa/
Rosaria
Iona is my favourite
Circe - sounds made up

ChairPose9to5 · 16/06/2022 15:03

Leonora i like.
Severine - no, it's like 'severe'
Circe is very harsh
Rosalie is ok Rosamund more your style I would have thought (knowing you so well! 😅)

newbiename · 16/06/2022 15:06

Eleanor and Josephine.

DogsAndGin · 16/06/2022 15:15

The first two are nice

IggyAce · 16/06/2022 15:21

I like the first 2 from your list Rosalie slightly more.
I guessed the pronunciation correctly for the other 2 but a lot of others may not.
I know 3 sisters with a French father English mother called Celeste, Obeline and Alizea.

Cetrion · 16/06/2022 15:26

@IggyAce I LOVE Celeste but DH vetoed it because of a bad association 😞

I love Circe. It was a contender for dd2 as dd1 also has a Greek mythological name. Severine is gorgeous too.

Maybe wait until you meet your dd. I had to wait to see dd2 to know what her name was iyswim.

Snoken · 16/06/2022 15:31

I love Leonora too, but not so keen on the others. I also like Fedora which sounds a bit similar, if you wanted to add more possible names to your list. It means God's gift (and hat in Italian, but we don't need to talk about that).

ChairPose9to5 · 16/06/2022 15:32

Fédora, everybody knows that's a hat, don't suggest that!

babyjellyfish · 16/06/2022 15:33

I'd choose Rosalie with Rosa as the nickname.

swifty1974 · 16/06/2022 15:33

Whats with everyone these days with the pretentious names? Whats wrong with Sarah or Claire or Rachel.....Circe? really....come on

each to their own of course....just my opinion....I know how offended you all get when someone isnt all flowery and supportive....

Irishfarmer · 16/06/2022 15:36

Rosalie is my favourtite.

A French name with a French father is fine but the meaning of Severine isn't very nice (grave/ serious according to google)

chesirecat99 · 16/06/2022 15:37

I absolutely love Severine but I love Leonora and Rosalie too, in that order.

Circe, I'm not so sure about. I think it is a quite cool, strong, feminist name but, onthe other hand, she was a witch... I would pronounce it Seer-say but I think the original correct Ancient Greek pronunciation is Kur-Kee.

DramaAlpaca · 16/06/2022 15:40

Rosalie is my favourite by a long way.

I like Leonora, but hate Nora.

Severine is pretty, but only in a French accent.

Circe no, for the reasons @chesirecat99 gave in her post.
