Greek names for baby boy

maisieandvicks · 11/06/2022 09:26

I am currently 6 months pregnant with my third child. We are having a boy and I am extremely excited as we currently have two girls.

Both of our girls have traditional Greek names.

Any ideas for any traditional Greek names for a boy would be welcomed!

Apollo
Adonis

My children are half-Greek. I wanted to use Adonis as the middle name of my son, but thought it might set him up for teasing. I wish I had used it now.

I’m pretty sure Michail is Greek, pronounced Meek- Ail. Thanos could be another suggestion but possibly a bit Marvel!

It’s pronounced Me- ha- lis in Greek.

I am Greek and Greek names that would work well in the Uk are the ones that are not ending in “s” because of declension issues. If the name ends in “s” it won’t be grammatically correct the way you will use it in English.

I would suggest names that don’t end in “s”. And I would also avoid names that are just a shortening of Greek original names like Theo, Leo and Alex.

Michael and Raphael are very good choices as they are authentically Greek and work equally well in the Uk.

My male Greek relatives are called Alexandros, Spiro, Vassillis, Vasillios, Christos, Andreas, Georgios, Dimitrios
@Obsessedwithpizzas same, it’s their name day today isn’t it?
that’s another thing you might want to think of op, the name will dictate their name day if you celebrate in that way?

The OPs baby must be 4 months old now so I’m guessing she’s chosen a name.

In my experience, the majority of Greek men seem to be called either George or Michael.

😂

Clarabe1 · 02/01/2023 19:23

Kyriakos- especially if he is born on a Sunday

WingingIt101 · 02/01/2023 19:29

My Greek friend has a Foivos - not particularly mainstream and she did have to explain in her text "foivos, pronounced fee-vo" but it has a beautiful meaning and I love it - I'm not Greek though so it would be strange on a child of mine!

EspressoPatronum · 02/01/2023 19:36

Greek men/boys I know… (forgive me when I butcher the spellings!!)

Christos,
Vangeli
Pantelis
Orestis
Panos
Orpheus

Hepzibar · 02/01/2023 19:43

OP's baby would have been about 3/4 months ago, pretty sure he will have been named by now

When I was at university, I knew a Spiro. It's nice and different.
