I posted about the name Juliet yesterday and it seems that there could be some confusion over pronunciation. So, how would you pronounce the name?

JULIE-et?
Julie-ET?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Johnnysgirl · 25/05/2022 08:28

The second one.

olympicsrock · 25/05/2022 08:28

JulieET

DockOTheBay · 25/05/2022 08:29

I think Juliette would have an emphasis on the "et" syllable, Juliet on the "julie" part.

Chamomileteaplease · 25/05/2022 08:30

Exactly what DockoftheBay said -

JULIE-et for your spelling
Julie-ET for Juliette.

BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 25/05/2022 08:30

Joo li et

ThatPosterIsSoRight · 25/05/2022 08:30

Second

Justkeeppedaling · 25/05/2022 08:31

Jew lee ET

Talipesmum · 25/05/2022 08:31

Julie-ET.

But I think I probably put a reasonably strong emphasis on both syllables. They’re quite evenly balanced with a slight extra on the -ET.

AfterSchoolWorry · 25/05/2022 08:32

Joolee ette

No emphasis on any syllable

BlandUsername · 25/05/2022 08:33

Agree that Juliette should have an emphasis on the "et" syllable, and Juliet on the "julie" part.

However, most people will mispronounce Juliet as Juliette.

PuppyMonkey · 25/05/2022 08:33

Second one.

TheDoveFromAboveCooCoo · 25/05/2022 08:34

I'm so confused. Surely there is only one way to pronounce Juliet?

I keep saying it over and over in my head and I can't hear a difference?

lunar1 · 25/05/2022 08:35

I really can't envisage how it would sound different.

Yes, there is. Anything else is just the Bucket/Bouquet thing Grin

LosingTheWill2022 · 25/05/2022 08:38

It's hardly a difference in pronunciation. A slight difference in emphasis that's all.

olympicsrock · 25/05/2022 08:39

Two spellings - both the same pronunciation

saraclara · 25/05/2022 08:41

There isn't a very strong emphasis on either syllable, but what there is, is on the ET.

PuppyMonkey · 25/05/2022 08:45

I think OP means

Joooooolie-et

or

Julie-ETTE

I’m not sure I’m helping.Grin

clarrylove · 25/05/2022 08:49

JOOlie-ut or Julie-ETTE (like serviette). I've only heard the latter pronunciation.

Jessbow · 25/05/2022 08:52

so are they pronounced Julie-ette and Julie-ut?

Juliet is almost one sylable -Jooleeut
Juliette two- Julie-ette

Loginmystery · 25/05/2022 08:53

Like Mark Knophler - the second one

KarrotKake · 25/05/2022 08:55

What is the difference between the two ways written above??

Luxa · 25/05/2022 08:55

Julie-ET

StarTwins · 25/05/2022 08:57

I am also saying it over and over! Im pretty sure I would say Julie Et for both Juliet and Juliette - I can't imagine saying JOO li Et.

DuchessOfSausage · 25/05/2022 08:57

JOO-li-et
