I would pronounce it like Layla but with a -e-, so maybe bit more drawn LEH--lee-a, where you draw first syllable a bit.

Please don’t do this to your baby.

Who would want their poor child to spend the rest of their life correcting the pronunciation of their name? Why would you do that? Call her Bob.

How would you pronounce Laelia

Ae is pronounced ee as in faeces. So Leelia.

No, it isn't always. It's LAY LEE AH. It's an orchid. IT's not a name but it is a word and there is no discussion to be had on the pronounciation, it only has one. And it's not a very hard one.

roratone · 19/05/2022 10:17

Just dont.

MoonKnight · 19/05/2022 10:20

To rhyme with Dahlia

Ae is pronounced ee as in faeces. So Leelia.

Not always. Fae (fairy) is pronounced fay. Aeroplane is pronounced airoplane.

I'd pronounce it lay-lee-ah, or La Ellia.

KirstenBlest · 19/05/2022 10:34

@CupidStunt22 , it's latin and is pronounced La-elly-ah
but plants are often not pronounced in the latin way, eg fuchsia, dahlia, camellia.

I believe that gardeners say it to rhyme with Dahlia (Dale-ya)

CupidStunt22 · 19/05/2022 10:38

It is latin but its pronounced LAy-lee-ah.

Your comment is a little mean but I love the blackadder reference Grin

Yes, it was mean. I apologise.

jammyrose · 19/05/2022 12:44

Lay-lee-a? It comes across as a cross between Layla/Leila and Leah/Lia. I’d probably pick one or the other.

Chubarubrub · 19/05/2022 12:46

Lay-Lee-uh

RedGazelle · 19/05/2022 13:24

Lay Lee ah

One of my dd’s has a slightly more unusual Latin name and lots of people do assume I made it up, most of them are quite surprised when I say it’s Latin

TakeMe2Insanity · 19/05/2022 21:39

Please don’t, especially as Laylee is an actual name(arabic).

Options are: Layla/Leila, Laylee, Leela. The wrong pronunciation will just be a lifetime of headache.
