How would you pronounce Laelia

I would pronounce it like Layla but with a -e-, so maybe bit more drawn LEH--lee-a, where you draw first syllable a bit.

Lay lee ah.

I wouldn't saddle a child with that spelling as she will be forever having to spell it out and see her name misspelled all the time.

VintageGibbon · 18/05/2022 18:52

Lee-lee-a or Lay-lee-a

bobbythevet · 18/05/2022 19:00

I would inwardly roll my eyes at the spelling then pronounce it 'lay-lah'

Sniffypete · 18/05/2022 19:05

Lay-Ellia

Choopi · 18/05/2022 19:06

I'd say lay-lee-a. It would occur to me to pronounce it like layla, I'd presume if someone wanted to call their kid layla they would.

NC1010 · 18/05/2022 19:06

So confusing.

I wouldn't.

Layla is much better.

KirstenBlest · 18/05/2022 19:09

it's the name of a flower @bobbythevet

elfran · 18/05/2022 21:06

Good grief, are we ever going to see the end of these confounded L-heavy names? Lily, Lyla, Leila, Lola, I can't turn around without bumping into one these days.

That said, I'd say Lay-lee-ah?

Ellmau · 18/05/2022 22:45

Lee-lee-a.

Luredbyapomegranate · 18/05/2022 23:11

I'd assume Lay-lee-ah

But it's a kind of orchid, so it will be easy enough to double check

NewandNotImproved · 18/05/2022 23:19

‘ae as in faeces’ 😂😂😂😂

the name, on sight makes me think ‘oh for fucks sake, do I need to figure out how this is meant to be pronounced?’ Lay-Leah

ObjectionHearsay · 18/05/2022 23:29

Lay-Leah

As in rhymes with labia...

the kids in Human Biology 101 as young teens will make this connection and rhyme,.don't say I didn't warn you

SouperNoodle · 18/05/2022 23:35

It might be nice for you to give your baby an unusual name but remember that they have to live with it their whole life.
She will forever be correcting pronunciation and spelling and that's just mean to do to a child.

Talipesmum · 18/05/2022 23:39

Lee-lia or layee-lia.

ladytessa · 18/05/2022 23:46

Layldjfbdiebwnwodvla

Not a typo :)

TheNoteIsEternal · 18/05/2022 23:59

Lie Lee a

chubbachub · 19/05/2022 00:05

muddyford · 18/05/2022 18:49

Ae is pronounced ee as in faeces. So Leelia.

😂😂
Brutal

PaddleBoardingMomma · 19/05/2022 00:09

Kev-in

peaceinourtime · 19/05/2022 00:30

I assume its pronounced lay-la as there are lots different spellings of it. Using an exotic name is always a risk as it will either wind up being pronounced as lay-la and the child will go by it or they will be forever correcting people on a day basis of both people who know it or don't. As well as another reason which has slipped my mind.

rnsaslkih · 19/05/2022 01:02

I wouldn’t pronounce it

because I wouldn’t want to risk getting it wrong

think carefully before giving a child a name that some people will avoid saying

bridgetreilly · 19/05/2022 03:28

Laelia, pronounced ‘pretentious parents’.

WhatsInAMolatovMocktail · 19/05/2022 04:40

To rhyme with Celia.
Just pick a normal name ffs

fossilsmorefossils · 19/05/2022 04:55

Do you want you and your child to spend the rest of your lives correcting peoples pronounciation and spelling of a name? Because it's fucking exhausting. Don't do that to your child. Choose a normal name and use the most used spelling. It's selfish to give your child a weird name or spelling just to sound interesting. There are thousands and thousands of normal names to choose from, there will be something you like.

Penguinsaregreat · 19/05/2022 05:01

Lay lah, I wouldn't take time working it out. If I met them in person is ask how to pronounce it.

MrsDrSpencerReid · 19/05/2022 05:15

‘Lay lee ah’ or ‘Lee Lee ah’

Some harsh responses on here 😬

I think it’s quite pretty!
