Daisy?

I'm having a baby in a few weeks and the gender will be a surprise. We have 3 boys names we like that we will decided when they're here but are struggling for girls. We have names we really like but we just can't imagine our child being called those names.

We've both realised we really like the name Daisy. Its a new name that we've never discussed before yet its the first time we've actually felt quite settled on a name. The only thing that puts me off is the popularity. I have a DD called Jemima already and like that her name is known but not popular where I am. I've yet to meet another one and I always get compliments. My DH couldn't care less about the popularity and thinks if it suits we should just go for it which I also agree with.

My question is if you have a Daisy or a child in the top 50 names do you ever regret it slightly or dislike hearing it more often? When I think of it I don't actually know any Daisy's so maybe I'm just really overthinking it.

If you also have any other girl names throw them my way :)

I like it but once they get to 28 it sounds ridiculous.

A fair few teens named Daisy that I know, but not any younger ones. I like it, and I’m guessing it feels like it fits for you?

MolkosTeenageAngst · 12/02/2023 19:32

I’m a teacher and don’t think I’ve ever come across a Daisy.

I definitely don’t think it’s too ‘cutesy’ for an adult. The only adult Daisy I can think of is Daisy May Cooper, she is a strong, funny as fuck successful woman and definitely not at all ‘cutesy’ so don’t think it’s held her back.

TheaBrandt · 12/02/2023 19:34

Sorry but it’s awful. It’s fine for a toddler but sounds ridiculous on an adult woman. There was a serious news correspondent called Daisy something and it found it jarring when she had to say her name.

Zombie thread. @TopSecret99 what did you call her in the end? I like it. Would have used it for dd 24 years ago but DH thoughtnit was a maid's name.

I watched an interview with Daisy Waugh in the 70s and she and the name wowed me.

I have a 12 year old Daisy...she likes her name. She has a couple of other girls called Daisy in her year (year 8, v popular name in 2010 I guess!) but outside of that, I don't know any others.

One of my girls is Daisy, it was my great grandma’s name and I’ve always loved it. She’s 21 now and adores her name. I have only come across a few others, even working in a school. They’ve all been gorgeous too!!!

Love Daisy! If I had another DD that would be a contender for sure. I went with a popular name, I think no 8/9 when she was born but I’ve not met another her age.

RuthW · 12/02/2023 21:16

I know three Daisys.

Two are 26 and one 11.

Go for it.

beetree1 · 12/02/2023 22:31

I never ended up having a little girl so didn’t get to use it but was definitely a contender 😊

@beetree1 thanks for update!

I LOVE Daisy! To me, it is very special purely because I can’t think of any other names the same ‘feel’ - it’s like pretty but also has a feisty vibe, well known but also feels a bit quirky. I think it works just fine for adults! It’s a beautiful name.

adrianmolesmole · 14/02/2023 14:38

I like Daisy too, I know an adult one and it suits her. It is quite quirky, as well as feminine. And not overused either.

I have two friends that called their baby Daisy within the last few months. I feel it will become more popular
