Daisy?

I'm having a baby in a few weeks and the gender will be a surprise. We have 3 boys names we like that we will decided when they're here but are struggling for girls. We have names we really like but we just can't imagine our child being called those names.

We've both realised we really like the name Daisy. Its a new name that we've never discussed before yet its the first time we've actually felt quite settled on a name. The only thing that puts me off is the popularity. I have a DD called Jemima already and like that her name is known but not popular where I am. I've yet to meet another one and I always get compliments. My DH couldn't care less about the popularity and thinks if it suits we should just go for it which I also agree with.

My question is if you have a Daisy or a child in the top 50 names do you ever regret it slightly or dislike hearing it more often? When I think of it I don't actually know any Daisy's so maybe I'm just really overthinking it.

If you also have any other girl names throw them my way :)

I only know of 1 Daisy and she is 27 and I only recently found out her given name is in fact Margret, but she hates that and has always from birth been known as Daisy. Pretty name.

FayCarew · 22/04/2022 18:05

It's in the top 25. I know a few.
It's a bit girly but no more so than Lily, Rosie etc

DramaAlpaca · 22/04/2022 20:56

It's a sweet, pretty name. It is a bit twee for my taste but I don't dislike it.

It goes beautifully with Jemima.

iwishiwasonhol · 22/04/2022 21:04

its my daughters name ,i loved it when she was younger not so much a fan now as next doors cat is called that and all i can hear now when i say her name is the woman next door talking to her cat in a stupid baby voice ,my daughter hates her name now for the same reason

milkyway100 · 24/04/2022 06:04

I really like Daisy,

SScoobiedoo · 24/04/2022 06:13

There's reasons some names are not popular other than the name hadn't been thought of.

I have friends with a daughter called Daisy, now in her mid-20s. She doesn’t like it. She thinks it’s childish and predisposes people not to take her seriously. And she can’t do anything about the name, like calling yourself Rebecca not Becky or Becks. It’s all she has. It is cute, but not perhaps a name to go through life with.

My Nana was called Daisy. Unfortunately she died quite young, but she was in her 60's, never had a problem with it as an adult. One set of work friends called her Dee after an initial misunderstanding, but it stuck. (Introduced as initial surname)

LoveSpringDaffs · 24/04/2022 06:23

@beetree1 other than my late Nana I know 2. Friends 11yo & cousins 5yo.

I love it x

wingsofabird · 24/04/2022 08:35

Absolutely love the name Daisy
I have young children and have never met a Daisy
This name's numbers have been falling most years since 2010 (when they peaked) so it's a good time to pick this name as it's falling 📉 rather than trending up 📈

Rosemary2022 · 24/04/2022 12:06

It's beautiful. I would probably go with Margaret as a legal name (which I think is stunning too) , but use Daisy as a nickname. Gives her the option to use either when she grows up.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 24/04/2022 12:11

Love Daisy.

I know several in their 20’s the same age as my dses, they don’t seem to have a problem with their name.

Daffodilsdance · 24/04/2022 12:14

I teach 3 Daisys . 1 is 17 , one is 15 and one is 13 . They are all totally different personalities, but it suits them all . Lovely name .

CharlieBoo · 24/04/2022 13:55

I have a nearly 13 year old Daisy! We don’t know any others and she is the only Daisy in her year group. I love it probably more now than ever and she likes it too..

I disagree that it’s too cutesy for an adult.. it’s no more cutesy than lots of other names like Rosie, Lily etc..

expensiveshite · 24/04/2022 18:09

I have a 2019 Daisy. I was also worried about the same thing, but I love it even more now.

Theforest · 24/04/2022 18:11

Lovely name. Go for it.

Cloud16 · 24/04/2022 18:27

I really like Daisy, such a happy name! Can't imagine an arsehole called Daisy lol

beetree1 · 25/04/2022 11:17

I don't think I would go for the name Margaret as to me its a completely different vibe and I would never choose it. Personally I wouldn't 2nd think if I met a middle aged / old Daisy.

I think the reason we really like it is because it feels like such a happy name. I also can't imagine an arsehole called Daisy either haha @Cloud16

It's my aunt's name, so I've always thought of it as an adult name. It's lovely!

Re the dog-name thing, two months after we named our daughter, Blue Peter named their latest puppy the same thing. Then there seemed to be a spate of puppies with the same name. There are no guarantees that any name is safe from being a dog-name!

StrawberrySanta · 25/04/2022 14:58

I LOVE Daisy, I had 2 boys otherwise mine would have been Daisy Alice. Go for it

dandeliondaisy · 11/02/2023 21:14

@StrawberrySanta my little one is Daisy Alice! Great taste!

dandeliondaisy · 11/02/2023 21:15

So my Daisy is little but fiery! I love how fresh and cool her name is and hopefully she will love it when older. I know a 25 year old Daisy who is an engineer and another who is a fashion designer!

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 11/02/2023 21:18

The Queen of Denmark is sometimes known as Daisy, although her name is Margrethe.

Newyorkcity123 · 11/02/2023 21:22

Lovely name for a little girl. Not sure about for an adult. Know a tomboy teen girl called Daisy and not sure it suits her. Love Jemima and think names which go with are Imogen, Camille, Vivian, Eloise.

beebugbird · 12/02/2023 19:23

I have name changed.
I have a Jemima Daisy so obviously think you have great taste.
Daisy in our case represents both my grandmothers one was a Margaret but known as Peggy and the other was xxxx Margaret both loved flowers both disliked Margaret as a name itself so I used Daisy to represent both fairly.

LindorDoubleChoc · 12/02/2023 19:25

Beautiful name. There was a Daisy in our family, sadly passed on last year aged 103.
