What are your thoughts on Benjamin and Arthur? Considering for DS1. Thank you!

I love both but prefer Benjamin. I have a nephew nn Benjy, I love it!

Mytoddlerisamazing · 06/04/2022 21:18

Benjamin Smile

MadameDragon · 06/04/2022 21:20

Benjamin. Lovely name and uncommon these days.

Etinoxaurus · 06/04/2022 21:41

Both are lovely but Benjamin means last born so I’d not use it for #1
le Benjamin
If you love Ben, go for Benedict.

MuMmaOf3littles · 06/04/2022 21:44

My youngest son is called Benjamin Arthur, so I obviously love it. I thought they were lovely classic names and that's why I chose them. Benjamin especially isn't common

WeasilyPleased · 06/04/2022 22:05

Benjamin is much nicer.

SunshiningBoo · 06/04/2022 22:05

I like both names, but I do slightly prefer Arthur.

axolotlfloof · 06/04/2022 22:07

I am suprised people think Benjamin is uncommon.
There were a couple in my son's primary school class, and a third one in his football team. We only know one Arthur though.
I prefer Arthur.

DemBonesDemBones · 06/04/2022 22:17

Benjamin. I'm still confused how Arthur caught back on!

Datsandcogs · 06/04/2022 22:17

Both lovely. I prefer Benjamin, but if you’ll end up calling him Ben then I’d also prefer Benedict.

Firebird83 · 06/04/2022 22:18

Arthur is my favourite. I like Benjamin but not Ben.

mumma000 · 06/04/2022 22:18

love benjamin, partner dont

Mumofgirls2017 · 06/04/2022 22:26

Both nice, prefer Arthur

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 06/04/2022 22:30

I prefer Benjamin. I also like Benedict. Arthur is a fine name but for someone of my vintage it's still massively confusing to go to the GP and see something ike 'Arthur Marshall for Nurse Jean in Room 1' come up on the screen and instead of an old man in a flat cap staggering to his feet, a parent with a tiny baby moves off. But that's just me. Grin

Lostatsea10 · 06/04/2022 22:32

I have a Benjamin, I love it. My DS4 calls him Bunny as he’s sure we named him after Benjamin Bunny from Peter Rabbit! Grin

toastofthetown · 06/04/2022 22:40

Personally I prefer Arthur. I don’t know where the idea that Benjamin is uncommon has come from. It’s been in the top fifty in England and Wales since 1974! Arthur is more popular at the moment, so he’s more likely to share a classroom with an Arthur, when he grows up and stops being such defined age groups, there will probably be more Benjamjns around him than Arthurs. Especially as I can see Arthur starting to fall in popularity again in the next few years and become quite dated in a way Benjamin isn’t.

Luredbyapomegranate · 07/04/2022 01:18

Benjamin, because so many Arthurs

Topseyt · 07/04/2022 02:06

I like both, though think I lean slightly towards Benjamin.

Anystarinthesky · 07/04/2022 02:42

I prefer Benjamin

lemoncrisp · 07/04/2022 02:46

I like Benjamin much more than Arthur

JudesBiggestFan · 07/04/2022 09:33

We have a Benjamin...our last born son, which is what it means! I love it...he was Benjy as a baby, now definitely a Ben for most people and Benjamin when in trouble. Now he's in reception he's very clear he's a Ben as it's less letters to write!

KirstenBlest · 07/04/2022 09:42

Benjamin. Don't like Benedict.

Arthur is ok but very popular

KirstenBlest · 07/04/2022 09:45

@Etinoxaurus

It doesn't mean last born, it means son of my right hand.

In French, it is used to mean the youngest child

dmb91 · 07/04/2022 09:58

Benjamin

2 year old DS's best friends at nursery are called Benji and Arthur Smile

I prefer Benjamin - slightly more unusual (though not exactly uncommon), more nicknames and just nicer to my ears. Both are fine names, though.
