Sye as in your eye.

Sye -Bell or sye-Bee-Leh or sye-Bee-Lee

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
AuntieStella · 01/04/2022 12:53

si-belle

With stress on second syllable and no great certainty that would be the right way

Blossomandbee · 01/04/2022 12:53

Sye-Bell was my first thought. Followed by possibly another spelling of Cybil

merryhouse · 01/04/2022 12:54

Ssib-EE-lie

whatausername · 01/04/2022 12:54

I read it the same as Sibyl

Soubriquet · 01/04/2022 12:55

@whatausername

I read it the same as Sibyl
Same

Thought it was just a different spelling

RoastedFerret · 01/04/2022 12:55

@Blossomandbee

Sye-Bell was my first thought. Followed by possibly another spelling of Cybil
This is what I thought too.
SushiShopSearch · 01/04/2022 12:56

si-bell, but it's such an ugly spelling

Fivebeanchilli · 01/04/2022 12:56

I would say it like Sibyl but then with ee on the end. So like Emily but with Sib instead of Em.

darlingdodo · 01/04/2022 12:56

Si-bell-eh with the si as in sit

Wastwater · 01/04/2022 12:56

Sih-bell

AuntieStella · 01/04/2022 12:56

I thought Cybil was a homophones of Sybil (like Cybill Shepherd)

Anoisagusaris · 01/04/2022 12:57

Cy wouldn’t be Sye would it?? I’d pronounce it like Cymbal or Cylinder so that (made up looking) name would be be like Cybil but more like Cy-belle

soregums · 01/04/2022 12:57

Si-bell

thebabynanny · 01/04/2022 12:58

Sib-el-ee maybe.

ILoveMyMonkey · 01/04/2022 12:59

I’d read it as sigh-beel (rhyming with eel) but I would know that was wrong and ask for a correct pronunciation.

PlinkPlankPlunk · 01/04/2022 12:59

Cuh-bay-lay

It’s Ancient Greek and definitely has a hard C

ellenpartridge · 01/04/2022 13:00

Si-bell

ILoveMyMonkey · 01/04/2022 13:00

@Anoisagusaris

Cy wouldn’t be Sye would it??. Cycle

scottishnames · 01/04/2022 13:10

She's a rather terrifying goddess, worshipped in bloody festivals. Her priests castrated themselves:
www.theoi.com/Phrygios/Kybele.html

Kih-beh-ley if ancient Greek or Roman, Sih-buh-lee in the English language today or See-bell if French (with a long 'e' - grave accent)

nearlyspringyay · 01/04/2022 13:13

Sy bell e

I don't like like it.

User12398712 · 01/04/2022 13:13

My first thought was kib-bailey. I was very much wondering where I got that pronunciation from until PlinkPLankPlunk and scottishnames came along!

scottishnames · 01/04/2022 13:15

The 'Kih' sound above is close to the first syllable of 'Kuh-beh-ley' in ancient pronouciation, as Plink suggests.

User76745333 · 01/04/2022 13:15

I think most would assume it’s an odd spelling of Sybil and assume you love Fawlty Towers

I also don’t like it
