Hi

Expecting another little one later this year. Not finding out the gender but we are thinking Noor for a girl. We are Muslim and we love the meaning in Arabic. Opinions please Smile

Love it.

Absolutely lovely name, a beautiful meaning. And well known because of Queen Noor of Jordan.

EveSix · 29/03/2022 20:14

I've always loved it since teaching the most delightful Noor 20 years ago.

MangshorJhol · 29/03/2022 20:19

I know how it’s pronounced in Urdu. And I have just asked someone who speaks Farsi and I can confirm it is Noo-r like Moo. At least those of us who are from South Asia and the Middle East grew up hearing the name pronounced that way.

I've always loved it.

And the list of famous Noors is great! en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Noor_(name)

Human rights lawyers, philanthropist queens and spies! Pretty awesome.

My friend who is Syrian called her daughter Noor. It's an absolutely beautiful name.

Noo (moo) with a silent r?

@MangshorJhol the ‘ore’ pronouncer is West Indian as I am. We also tend to pronounce Aisha as I-eesha rather than I-sha which tends to be the norm for southern Asians.
Lovely to have the variations.
