Nice if you're Italian.

HellToTheNope · 25/03/2022 13:35

I really dislike it.

Josette77 · 25/03/2022 13:36

Love it

iklboo · 25/03/2022 13:36

Pronounced 'better' or 'bayta'?

DotDotDotDotDot · 25/03/2022 14:13

I’m not keen, it’s overly fussy.
I dislike Elizabeth too though which is a Mumsnet firm favourite.

FunnysInLaJardin · 25/03/2022 14:15

I love it and work with a girl called this who is half Italian. She also gets called Betty.

demoness · 25/03/2022 14:16

Sounds lovely in Italian, not so nice in my local accent because the T would become a glottal stop... I think it would probably work best on someone who has Italian heritage and a surname to match.

Rosemary2022 · 25/03/2022 22:40

Hi thanks. Yes half italian

I love it.

I have a lovely friend who is Elisabetta, and she uses Elisa as a short name. :)

Fivebeanchilli · 25/03/2022 23:30

We know a six year old who is officially Elizabeth but mum and mum's family (Italian) call her Elizabetta. It sounds lovely.

Tulipvase · 25/03/2022 23:34

I like it.

We have an Italian child in our class whose sister is Lilibet. I like that too.

Cindie943811A · 25/03/2022 23:37

I think it’s charming and lovely if it reflects your daughter’s heritage

Kanaloa · 25/03/2022 23:38

It’s nice. Lots of nice names she can be called too like Ellie/Elise/Lisa/Betty etc.

Kanaloa · 25/03/2022 23:39

Especially as you’re Italian too - a nice nod to her heritage but still very international.

ChiefWiggumsBoy · 25/03/2022 23:45

@iklboo

Pronounced 'better' or 'bayta'?
who would pronounce it like 'bayta'?!

I like it. Even with the Italian spelling it's still a strong classic name. I mean even to an English ear it sounds that way - does that make sense? I can't quite articulate what I mean!

Rosemary2022 · 26/03/2022 00:13

Thanks everyone!

Quite like it, you need to think about short forms though, it just won’t get used in full.

Rosemary2022 · 26/03/2022 22:12

We were thinking of Lili for short. What are your thoughts? Any other suggestions?

OP posts:
PatterPaws · 26/03/2022 22:14

Lilian is pretty

Gandalfsring · 26/03/2022 22:19

I love it!

We have an Elspeth. We intended to use the shortening of Elsie but ended up using Betty instead.

Bangendedscoots · 26/03/2022 22:24

I think its lovely!

Lurking9to5 · 26/03/2022 22:30

No. I like Italian names generally but in this case, Elizabeth is so much nicer.

merrymelodies · 26/03/2022 22:45

I love it! A classic name with an original twist. At least to anglophones.

Rosemary2022 · 27/03/2022 09:48

I can see what others are saying in it being similar to other hyphenated names and people mixing them up. But I don't think I would let that worry me. I mean if you are going for something easy to remember just go with Child A (that is not the purpose of a given name).

If people say her name wrong she will I am sure be able to correct people - as we all do now with our own names.

Go with the name you like best!
