Opinions on the name Orla

I’m scared to do this 😱

I know a name is a personal choice and what I deem to be a lovely name would be someone else’s absolute bottom choice garbage.

This will be my third baby my other daughter is named Indie Blossom May (Lastname)

If we have another girl we are going to call her Orla Daisy Jean (Lastname)

I know an Orla and she’s a button! Lovely name.

Orla's nice I think - Anglicised version of an Irish name I think but there's nothing wrong with that.

It was very nearly my other DD’s name before we settled on indie, it was either Indie, Edie or Orla. And we almost changed it to Orla a week after she was born. It means golden princess and we are a family of red heads so I do hope I get to use it this time. Although Finn (fair haired one) is our choice for a boy. So it’ll work out either way 😄

Depends where you live. If it’s pronounced properly (I.e not “Awla”) then go for it. If it isn’t, I don’t love it. But that’s me being a pronunciation snob

It’a surprisingly hard to find videos of people saying Orla so I defer to Sister Michael at 1.59

Orla is lovely, as are your middle names.
The Irish spelling is Órla, but lots of people in Ireland don't use the fada (the accent) either. There are also some older spellings of the name, but they're all pronunced the same. Irish accents are rhotic, unlike most English accents, which means the r in Orla is pronounced.
You can hear it here - the spelling in this case is Orlaith, but it sounds the same.

In the link, I don't think the Australian speaker pronounces the r, but the Irish speakers do.

Me and my OH are both English but he has Irish roots way back and he’s a Celtic fan 🙄😄 honestly though I think it’s just really pretty name but mostly my grandad who is like my all time favourite person in the world, used to call his “golden girl” because of my red hair, and Orla means golden princess so it’s that that has kind of sealed the deal for me

I love love love Edie, although I do think it’s to close to dd1s name Indie for me to use it now. And I couldn’t get OH to agree to it anyway 👎🏻

Growing up in Ireland in the 90s Orla was a very common name amongst my generation, along with Aoife, Sinéad, Niamh, Méabh, Caoimhe etc.

I think it's very pretty. Other spellings are Orlaith or Órfhlaith but I'd imagine Orla would be best if you're English.

I think Indie and Orla go really nicely together.

That's what I've always thought! It is an anagram of oral, which puts me off.

My friend’s DD is called Orla and my phone often corrects it to oral. I have to be really careful when I message her!
