Expecting another girl in June. Already have an Alice. Keep coming back to Maggie but can't work out if I love it or not!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Maybe Margot but definitely not Maggie

HomecomingKween · 22/03/2022 23:04

Margot is such a basic 2021 name.

Indecisive65270 · 23/03/2022 06:28

Didn't expect so many responses but probably why I'm so indecisive on it as not totally convinced even if I'm quite drawn to it - definitely seems love/hate. We were both really sure on Alice. I'll keep it on the list but the search continues!

I like it.
Margot nice too as alternative.

FrecklesMalone · 23/03/2022 06:33

I am a raging lefty who spent my childhood saying "Maggie, Maggie, Maggie. Out. Out. Out" on marches and saw what she did to this country. Yet still love the name. Love Peggy too.

Lurking9to5 · 23/03/2022 06:37

I love maggie! Too many margots now.

MsTSwift · 23/03/2022 06:37

Also the link with Margaret thatcher - pretty sure she never called herself Maggie just her opponents.

Lurking9to5 · 23/03/2022 07:22

It's not that rare a name to matter. Yeh, margaret thatcher was ruthless but every i hadvan aunt margaret to cancel that out.

If margaret thatcher was myrtle thatcher the name would be ruined by its association! Imo

HomecomingKween · 23/03/2022 10:38

What about Nancy? Has Maggie vibes and goes well with Alice.

TheGratefulBread · 23/03/2022 15:35

I love Maggie, we're considering it too, although we'd use Margalit (mahr-gah-leet) as a formal name. It's the Hebrew form of Margaret. Interestingly, other people have mentioned Maggie Gyllenhaal, and Margalit is her given name. Smile

WholeMilkIsMinging · 23/03/2022 22:20

Love it! There's one at DD's nursery and I'm slightly jealous that her mum thought of it and I didn't. If I used it i might have Marguerite as the full name.

peaceinourtime · 23/03/2022 22:23

Maggie is a nice name that is both cute and ages well. I wouldn't worry about having to have it as a nickname of a longer name if you don't want to, its fine on its own.

DogsAndGin · 24/03/2022 17:06

I feel Maggie is a nickname for a working class old lady, and personally I wouldn’t want to be called Maggie.

Also, Aggy Maggie. Naggy Maggie. Saggy Maggie. Baggy Maggie. Raggy Maggie. It’s just so open to namecalling imho

headspin10 · 24/03/2022 17:09

I met a really sweet little girl called Maggie a couple of years ago. I really like it.

Laniania · 24/03/2022 20:17

Maggie makes me think first of The Mill On The Floss. Oh and Maggie Greene in The Walking Dead! They're both awesome characters lol. It's a pretty classic name in my opinion, I like it. Defs wouldn't think of Thatcher first!

Sonata13 · 24/03/2022 20:38

I also love Meggie.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 24/03/2022 20:56

Really?

Dame Maggie Smith.
Maggi Hambling, CBE.
Maggie Gyllenhaal.

I know a Margaret who completely ignores anyone who tries to call her Maggie.

I have a lifelong acquaintance with just such a person. Grin

TheGrinch2022 · 22/02/2023 06:47

Absolutely LOVE it! My eldest daughter is now three and called Maggie - everyone has been very positive about it and haven’t heard a single thatcher-comment … go for it!!! 😍

Blablablablablablab · 22/02/2023 06:50

Not keen but like Margot

I've heard a lot worse But I don't like it very much.Especially when you have chosen Alice for your first DD which is a lovely name.

JumbledE · 22/02/2023 18:22

I like Maggie as a nn but love the name Margot as the full version.

Mysmallgarden · 22/02/2023 18:25

I like Margot, but not Maggie, it sounds too harsh.

peaceinourtime · 24/02/2023 04:32

I've commented on this thread before with my like for the name Maggie. I worked with a Maggie previously and my manager would call her Maggie May sometimes probably inspired by the song. This also nice Maggie May as a nickname.

Snugglemonkey · 24/02/2023 05:29

I love Maggie and Margot.
