Are Finley and Jack nice boys?

There are so few boy names I like. Jack and Finley are currently my two faves - I'm not a fan of unusual names so being very common does not bother me but I don't actually know any Jacks or Finleys myself. Are the Jack and Finleys you know nice boys?

The three Jacks I know are really good blokes. My late uncle was as well.

The two Finleys are both only little but they're very cute.

KohlaParasaurus · 17/03/2022 21:16

Yes, Jack and Finlay/Finley are nice uncomplicated boys.

SmellyOldOwls · 17/03/2022 21:18

Who wants nice children anyway Grin

TatianaBis · 17/03/2022 21:21

There are 100s of wide boy Jacks and Finns in London.

YoBeaches · 17/03/2022 21:46

No.

Jack is a little shit. Runs riot everywhere. Doesn't use words even though he can and just screams in your kids face till they move out of his way. Made worse cos Jacks mummy think it's funny and endearing.

Finlay/Finley/Finn on the other hand is forever at a crossroads as to whether he'll be the outdoorsy huckleberry boy-next-door confident but nice kid that mum and dad hoped for , OR the upper middle class, taekwondo, Clarinet player who never quite finds his own shoes to thrive in.

Until university, when Finn meets Jack. Jack and Finn are good for each other.

All this Jack abuse! My cousin is an Arts History graduate, charming, polite, sweet and funny. Not all Jacks are the same!

supersonicspider · 17/03/2022 22:13

I work in a school... nice names.

Confused

The only Finley I know well plays football on a team and likes comic book characters. Will let him know to keep an eye out for Jack at uni.

Kanaloa · 18/03/2022 03:58

Although I know many many Jacks and never experienced the detailed description you’ve given so presumably because the children are named before they can speak their personalities are all different.

Whattodoniw · 18/03/2022 05:26

@FattyFatCakes

Nope! I have never met a nice Jack I’m afraid. The ones I know are all very boisterous (rough) and unkind. Don’t know any Finleys but I love the name.
That's your experience. I know a few Jacks and they are lovely children and very very kind indeed. I am a teacher btw!
Whattodoniw · 18/03/2022 05:30

@Lovemusic33

They are nice names as long as you don’t mind your ds possibly having several others with the same name in his class at school, they are quite popular. I know quite a few Jack’s, and several Finley’s. Other popular names are Harry, Alfie, Edward (Eddie) and Oliver. I quite like the name Adam, not sure if it’s used much anymore? I think classic boys names will always be ‘nice’ but also a bit boring due to popularity.

Yawn.

Popular classic names are not ' boring' at all. Same drivel every time someone says they like a nice popular name. 🙄

Hoviscats · 18/03/2022 05:59

I have one of each and can confirm they are lovely 😍

notacooldad · 18/03/2022 06:52

The one I know so socially are great.( age range teens to the old blues in the pub). The ones I work with have een through a rough time and need support.
The na.es have no bearing on how you bring them up.
We have a team manager who is the most nicest , fairest bloke ever and his name gets slated on here ( Tyson)
My ex manager was the most manipulative nasty bitch to walk on this earth ( Catherine) 🤷‍♀️

olympicsrock · 18/03/2022 07:00

Both are nice boys. Jack is a confident child. Finlay/ Finley is a quieter child. Also think Finlay is the “correct” “classier “ spelling.

waterlego · 18/03/2022 08:05

I’ve got a Finlay who is nearly 14. I’m obviously biased but I think he’s rather a lovely boy. His teachers speak quite highly of him too Grin

Lilaclavenders · 18/03/2022 13:58

Mumoblue · 18/03/2022 14:06

Oh dear, all this Jack slander. 😂

My 2 year old is called Jack. I wouldn’t describe him as boisterous at all. I mean, he is two, and does standard two year old things- but otherwise he’s a lovely, well behaved little boy.
He was almost called Daniel, but we went with Jack in the end.
People in this thread are reading a bit too into the names.

I’ve never met a Finlay.

Lilaclavenders · 18/03/2022 15:19

I don't like either name. They both feel very 2000s and a little dated.

Kanaloa · 19/03/2022 00:00

I know. I was just thinking I should have named all my kids Finley, maybe I’d get more peace and quiet.
organicoatmilk · 19/03/2022 11:15

I know of one male Finley and he seems lovely. I also know a little girl named Finley and she is the sweetest!

I know of a lot of Jacks and there's a mix of lovely and horrible ones.

AnnesBrokenSlate · 19/03/2022 11:19

Jacks are cheeky. Finleys are nice.

Forgothowmuchlhatehomeschoolin · 19/03/2022 11:20

I know 2 Jack s and 2 Finleys.
One of the Finleys is a nightmare but that is nothing to do with his name.
