What are your thoughts on this name?

It's a marmite name. I like it. Quite Catholic.

Francis of Assisi was a good 'un. Only a top notch saint could become the patron saint of animals.

I love Francis. Very nice and soft sounding.

I know two recent babies named Francis and the parents are both devout Catholics. It’s a lovely name.

I really like it

I like it but think of it more as a girls name. Maybe because I know an adult Francis (male) who hates his name so much he uses his middle name instead. In fact I only found out years after meeting him what his real name was as he was so embarrassed to tell anyone.

I love it. My Francis can be Frank or Frankie but I wouldn’t mind Fran either. We’re not Catholic, didn’t even occur to us.

I like it! Irish but not Catholic and to me I 'hear' a classic, solid name. Wouldn't expect the parents to be ''devout''. I think they probably wanted a classic name with nn Frankie.

I love it and wanted to use it for DS, but was put off by the overwhelmingly negative response when I canvassed opinions. This was in Ireland, and it was so prevalent in the past there that people aren't quite ready for it again.

Anyway I like the name DS got instead, but I will always partially regret not using Francis!

I suppose it is very Catholic but its just a gorgeous soft name.

Oh and another reason I didn't use it is because I have a very slight lisp. Franthith. Something to bear in mind.

Boychild had a best friend for years named Francis. Lovely lad and lovely name 😊

It's a family name for me but I don't care for it. It has such a wet and unattractive sound and the shortened versions are so ugly.

Gorgeous name. It was my Grandad's middle name so I have a soft spot for it.

I like Frances for a girl, but not keen on Francis - it sounds a bit wet. Much prefer Frank, with nickname Frankie.

Really dislike it, always have done. Agree it’s so wet and blah sounding. I would hate to be called it, personally.

I like it. I'd only use it as a middle name though as I strongly dislike all the diminutives.

I love it, but it’s a family name for us (both male and female) so have a strong emotional attachment to it
