Narrowed girls names down to Matilda or Eloise.
Which do you prefer? And Why? Both go nicely with surname.

Thank you 😊

I prefer Matilda. It's less fussy.

IggyAce · 25/02/2022 16:23

Matilda

Petal7 · 25/02/2022 16:24

Matilda by far. Great nicknames and a classic name, ideal for child or adult.

PoniesLove · 25/02/2022 16:25

Love Matilda ❤️

Cuddlemuffin · 25/02/2022 16:25

Matilda definitely. Lovely nicknames. Not a fan of Eloise x

Classica · 25/02/2022 16:31

Inspired by Eloise at the Plaza and Roald Dahl's Matilda?

I think I'd go for Matilda.

Pluto301 · 25/02/2022 16:32

Matilda , it’s lovely.

KylieCharlene · 25/02/2022 16:34

Matilda.
I love the nn Tilly.
I do like Eloise but there's something about seeing it written down that I don't quite like.

ISmellBurnings · 25/02/2022 16:36

Eloise. I’ve never liked Matilda and at one point it felt so overused.

I also dislike Tilly as a nickname, so bland.

GlitteryGreen · 25/02/2022 16:39

I like them both but personally would go for Eloise, just because I think Matilda is generally always shortened so you rarely get to hear the full name anyway.

StopForAMinute · 25/02/2022 16:40

I like Matilda.

user1493494961 · 25/02/2022 16:40

Matilda is lovely. Eloise is OK but a bit fussy.

Justkeeppedaling · 25/02/2022 16:40

Matilda. Because no one will ever spell Eloïse properly. (It has a dieresis)

ellenpartridge · 25/02/2022 16:41

I think Eloise but like both

AdaColeman · 25/02/2022 16:47

Héloïse

PatterPaws · 25/02/2022 16:51

Matilda

RavenclawsRoar · 25/02/2022 16:52

I love Matilda. My favourite book as a child and would have been ds2's name had he been a girl (I have 3 boys!).

redlabeltea · 25/02/2022 17:20

Eloise, because Matilda is quite popular where I am. I haven't met an Eloise (except for one my own age), but have met a few young Matildas.

redlabeltea · 25/02/2022 17:22

It has a dieresis

Is the parent even planning to use that? Many don't. I went to school with two girls in the same class called "Chloe", one spelled just like that, but the other spelled "Chloë". The only Eloise I know doesn't use the dieresis as her parent didn't spell her name like that.

miltonj · 25/02/2022 17:33

Eloise definitely.

SeanChailleach · 25/02/2022 17:36

Matilda seems stronger. Totally irrational of me to think that...

helpmum2003 · 25/02/2022 17:37

Matilda but I like them both. Don't have a good reason.

clpsmum · 25/02/2022 17:38

Matilda just love it

Justkeeppedaling · 25/02/2022 17:42

@redlabeltea

It has a dieresis

That's my point. If you can't spell it, don't use it.

redlabeltea · 25/02/2022 18:03

That's my point. If you can't spell it, don't use it.

Fair enough. I disagree. You can spell names how you like. Hannah or Hanna, Michele or Michelle (knew a Michele), Chloe or Chloë or Chloé.
