Emily, it’s the only one that is not cutesy

Fredastaireschair · 22/02/2022 13:17

Emily=Timeless classic. Nothing special and not a fan of its meaning, but the nicest from the list IMO.

Elsie-Bit old lady and very 'meh'.

Daisy-Bit cutesy, NN for Margaret

Lottie-I only know one and she's horrible Grin plus, NN for Charlotte.

OinkyO · 22/02/2022 13:36

Emily
I hate Lotta

OinkyO · 22/02/2022 13:37

Lottie even

Rollonspring1111 · 22/02/2022 15:06

I think Lottie works fine as an independent name these days.
I was given a full name on my birth certificate, but no-one ever called me that apart from in formal situations -doctors, school etc.
I only liked the shortened version of my name. In fact I didn't even realise I had a longer version of it until I started school and had no idea that it was me who the teacher was talking to.
I honestly wish my parents had just gone with the short version that I am always known as on my BC.

StopForAMinute · 22/02/2022 15:14

My favourite is Elsie.

BeefSupreme · 22/02/2022 15:18

Elsie

BeefSupreme · 22/02/2022 15:21

As for why I voted Elsie, it's because I don't like the rest.

Emily is ok but a bit dated.
Daisy is too twee and Lottie sounds harsh and incomplete.

irishfarmer · 22/02/2022 16:14

I like Emily and Elsie.

I do like Daisy but not as much.

I don't like Lottie, only because the only one I know is a dose.

Blubells · 22/02/2022 17:42

*I think all of them are past their peek I know an awful lot of young girls with these names.

I think you’d regret it.*

I'm afraid I agree.

There are thousands of beautiful memorable names to choose from - have a look beyond the top 100.

Fivebeanchilli · 22/02/2022 17:57

Elsie and Daisy are top because they're lovely names.
Emily is nice but just more boring for me.
Lottie - I'm not keen except as a nn for Charlotte (and I prefer Charlotte)

Jacketandbeans · 22/02/2022 18:31

Daisy is my favourite and then Emily.
Lottie is a nickname for Charlotte and I don't like it on its own.
I really dont like Elsie. It is so similar to other names that are trendy right now, and I find it characterless.
Daisy is quirky on an adult and adorable on a baby or toddler. Emily is a classic but it is slightly boring to me. Nice name though.

Retrievemysanity · 22/02/2022 18:38

Emily is lovely and I don’t know any and never met one my own DDs’ ages (13 & 11). I do like Elsie but not as much as Emily. Daisy is pretty but I do think it’s quite a baby/little kid/cartoony name. Lottie I like the least and would never have it as a stand-alone name only as a nickname for Charlotte (which I love).

FindingMeno · 22/02/2022 18:40

Lottie, but also considering Lotte.
The others are a bit ordinary.

DramaAlpaca · 22/02/2022 18:42

Daisy - sweet and cutesy
Emily - nice enough
Elsie - dowdy and twee
Lottie - lovely as a diminutive

Leeloo1233 · 22/02/2022 19:26

We have an Elsie and love it 🥰 No-one has ever confused it with Elsa, everyone can pronounce it (internationally too), it's fresh but vintage.

Only in MN do people call it twee 😄 I don't get it, but then I wouldn't want to name my child Elizabeth or Claudia which seem to be the most popular (and dull) names here.

Greensalad · 22/02/2022 19:29

Emily for sure

SpikeySmooth · 22/02/2022 19:35

Emily is a family name. I wanted to call DD this but a cousin was already called Emma-Leigh, which was annoying.

Firebird83 · 22/02/2022 23:37

I have an Elsie short for Elizabeth Grin

MillieMoonbeam · 23/02/2022 00:16

Emily simply because it’s timeless

Daisy because I love it. I know a baby, a toddler, a few school age children and two grandmothers called Daisy. It’s beautiful and suits all ages. I’ve suggested Daisy for my granddaughter who will be born in May. DIL is thinking about it 🤞

urbanbuddha · 23/02/2022 03:23

Emily.

Fl0w3ry · 23/02/2022 13:38

They are all nice names. I think I like Daisy the most because it’s pretty and I always imagine someone carefree and laid-back would have the name.

KylieCharlene · 23/02/2022 13:46

Lottie but Charlotte on B.C.
Emily is very common plus the one I knew well was bloody awful.
Daisy is very little girl or cow.
Elsie is ok.

DameHelena · 23/02/2022 13:48

Lottie. Makes me think of plucky characters in books about the 40s (not quite sure why), plus the hilariously deadpan and sardonic Lottie who was in a recent Bake Off.

Excellent reasons, I know Grin

Violetandpurple · 23/02/2022 14:24

Daisy! Always been a fav of mine.
