Max.
Emphatically.

Luredbyapomegranate · 21/02/2022 09:03

Max by far
Otherwise Roland
Don’t like Jay (if you do make it a nn)
Tyler deffo a naughty boy name and to be avoided

Notajogger · 21/02/2022 09:05

Max, the other three are dated and naughty names!

kiwiandcherries · 21/02/2022 09:07

Definitely Max

KylieCharlene · 21/02/2022 09:09

1.Max
2.Jay
3.Tyler

4.Roland

roarfeckingroarr · 21/02/2022 09:11

Max. Tyler is naughty or American. Jay doesn't seem like a full name to me. Roland... not sure.

FourChimneys · 21/02/2022 09:12

A Reception teacher once said to me that they dreaded seeing a Tyler on their list of new pupils. Almost invariably badly behaved.

Maassi · 21/02/2022 09:15

Max or James (nn can be Jay)

Jay Tyler and Roland sound like the kind of bloke that's a troublemaker.

Moonshine160 · 21/02/2022 09:21

Max. Don’t like the others, sorry.

Frightmare · 21/02/2022 11:03

I like Roland or Rolly.

Trinacham · 21/02/2022 11:19

Jay or max

Bunnyfuller · 21/02/2022 11:21

None. Tyler….awful connotations. Roland old fashioned not in a good way. Why not James and he might get called Jay as a nickname my brother is a Jay James).

emmathedilemma · 21/02/2022 11:40

Max

FurryGrowler · 21/02/2022 12:06

@Romeocorner

Not keen on any of them. Roland. Can’t hear that name without thinking of Grange Hill and how Janet said it. #showingmyage

How about Rohan?

😂
RuthW · 21/02/2022 12:17

Roland reminds me of Grange Hill. The other two are really not nice

FayCarew · 21/02/2022 12:42

Roland or Max

deadlanguage · 21/02/2022 13:34

Very different styles! Roland is a bit too ‘old man in a cardigan’ for me. Tyler has too strong cultural associations. Jay is ok but a bit dull and makes me think of the character in Modern Family. Max is lovely!

Classica · 21/02/2022 13:50

I hate twee references to 'naughty names'.

DogsAndGin · 21/02/2022 13:51

Max is nice. I dislike the others, sorry OP

Orphlids · 21/02/2022 13:59

There is the most adorable little Roland in DS’s reception class, and I rather like it! I was so surprised to encounter such a young Roland, and I must admit the name is so dated that even after a couple of years of acquaintance, it still feels strangely unnatural to say his name out loud. But better that than something boring, I think. Jay has become a bit boring through overuse in recent years, and Tyler will invite assumptions about his character.

mumsiedarlingrevolta · 21/02/2022 14:01

Same.

Max very nice-other 3 not so much

Blubells · 21/02/2022 14:20

I like Jay.

Kanaloa · 21/02/2022 14:22

Well if op is going to have a badly behaved child it won’t make a jot of difference if he’s called Tyler or Max. So I’m sure her Tyler would be a breath of fresh air.

Anyway I would go either Tyler or Max. I like Jason but not Jay alone, and I’m not keen on Roland.

Kanaloa · 21/02/2022 14:24

Same. Wish people would just say what they mean, which is ‘why would you pick a poor people’s name, yuck.’

It’s so classist and I’m always shocked at all these reception teachers and nursery workers desperate to tell their friends how they judge any child called Tyler/Jackson/Kayden and know they’ll be a naughty boy immediately because I’ve worked in schools and nurseries for years and if any worker said ‘oh the new boy Tyler is coming in today, he’ll definitely be naughty’ we’d all think they were an idiot.

deadlanguage · 21/02/2022 14:32

Unfortunately I don’t think that’s true @Kanaloa. Adult expectations of how a child will behave affects their behaviour (eg studies done on whether sugar affects behaviour showed that kids misbehaved if their parents were expecting them to), and Freakonomics discusses how people treat people differently depending on their name. It’s plausible that people expect Tylers (or other names with that association) to be naughty so they become naughty, like a self-fulfilling prophecy.
