Clara’s sister is called…

Looking for ideas for a sister for Clara. We are finding it hard to find a name which compliments it without making it sound a bit fusty. Open to most suggestions and we are not fussed about popularity.

Please don’t have Clara and Cara! That would be very silly!

@Lockdownbear

Clara and Angela or Pamela

Most names will go with it but I'd avoid Anna or Annabelle - or they'll sound like Thomas's carriages

Yes, I agree. I think Annabel and Annie are out, as lovely as they are.

**I like Clara and Edith too.. but from what the OP says it might be too soft cottagecore for her, as opposed to a 1930s cocktail lounge vibe

Yes, I think you’ve hit the nail on the head here; that’s the style I’m after. I’m not keen on Edith/Esther etc with Clara but would prefer something that ‘lifts’ it.

I love Heidi but wouldn’t pair it with Clara due to the book.

Nell (with Eleanor as a full name, maybe).

So - Clara and Nell.

Both quite versatile names in that I can imagine very bookish and quiet teen or adult Clara/Nells, but can equally see the names working on edgy, confident ones.

My Auntie Clara was my very favourite auntie. She was born in 1912, went to school until she was 12, when she went working on the coal face until she was old enough to work in the mill.

Her fiance, Lawrence, died in the war of measles and she never met anyone else.

She was fabulous at drawing and painting and had the most beautiful handwriting. When I was young she made all my clothes. She was incredibly intelligent and if she had lived in another time would have lived a very different life. She died in 1997 and in her later years helped Cats Protection with feral cats.

I hope your Clara is as lovely and loved and blessed with everything my Auntie Clara missed out on.

Sorry for the digression! Names...

Her mum was Jemima, and her sisters were Anne, Ellen and Lilian, known as Annie, Nelly and Lily.

TwirlyWhirly6 · 19/02/2022 12:18

Exactly, I never quite understand these threads asking for names that 'go' with the sibling's name(s). It's not like they'll be forever known as a double act like Ant and Dec or something

@Luckyelephant1 I disagree here. Although I appreciate they will be different people, as their mum I will be calling their names out as a pair an awful lot and it would be nice to have something that flows off the tongue and are of a similar style. I also imagine writing Christmas cards and what our names will sound like together as a family. I think something like ‘Mum, Dad, Harry, Tom and Hunter’ sounds quite odd.

I love your story thanks for sharing

@Kayemm She sounds like a wonderful lady. I do quite like Clara and Lily together but the different spellings of Lily/Lilly/Lili put me off slightly, as does Isabel/Isobel/Isabelle. I fear she’d always be telling people how to spell her name her whole life.

Thank you to everyone who has shared your suggestions; I’m making a big long list of every name and will go through with DH. Some we will have to cross off immediately sadly as they are names of family/close friends’ children such as Alice and Rose but we will certainly be left with a lot to choose from!

I have an Eliza and a Clara.
They are very similar names imo. Timeless, Classic.
We get lots of compliments
