Any thoughts on this name for a boy?

I know a Jolyon they go by Joe..... I only recently found out their full name, I'd previously assumed it was Joseph or just Joe.

They hate their name. He's originally from the NE, he definitely pronounced it jolly-on and he goes fucking mental of you call him his full name because he hates it.

There's nicer names out there

Immediately made me think of the Tintin character Jolyon Wagg. (Never known a real Jolyon)

I'm quite squeamish about names picked because they are unusual but although I wouldn't choose Jolyon myself because I totally empathise with @Mins001 there are many worse names on these boards. The Forsyth Saga connection is positive and the 1920s styling is current.

Please don't do this to your child.
There's a Jolyon in a distant friend group of dd.
His friends call him Julie.

I don't like Jolyon, but how about Julian?

BertieBotts · 03/03/2022 08:38

It's unbearably posh, sorry. As in, not in a good way.

ShowOfHands · 03/03/2022 09:23

I went to school with a Jolyon. Bog standard local comp and he wasn't posh at all. I just know it as a name. I'm fortunate not to associate it with anything other than my mate Jo so to me it's a nice name with a pleasing sound.

ChaToilLeam · 03/03/2022 09:26

No, please don’t. Joel, Leon or Julian are all nice times without fox killer or posho associations.

Suzi9989 · 03/03/2022 09:28

Just Joe or Leon

WinterOfOurDiscoTent · 03/03/2022 12:31

It's a lovely name imo but I really like a lot of names that people scorn for being "posh".
