Is it awful? I don't actually know what I'm having yet, I have a feeling it'll be another boy but can't help day dream of girl names.

I've always loved Imogen, but I hate Immy and I know it'll happen.

I love Cassidy, and I love Cassie which is the inevitable shortening most people will make.

Is it a bit too surnamey?

I think it's lovely ❤️

Splashinginpuddles15 · 01/02/2022 15:08

Lovely name . I teach a Cassidy and she shortens it to Cassie , which is also lovely 💕

irishfarmer · 01/02/2022 15:45

It is an Irish surname, but if you don't live in Ireland I don't think it would be a problem. If you do, we have plenty of kids here called Ryan, and it is a really common surname.

But honestly, I would think a child called Cassidy was a boy.

Goandplay · 01/02/2022 15:46

I love it.

Glitterygreen · 01/02/2022 15:47

I like it very much :)

PainterInPeril · 01/02/2022 15:59

I've always thought Cassidy as a cool name for a girl. I honestly can't think of anything negative about it. Congratulations on your baby! Smile

NorthFacingGarden · 01/02/2022 16:01

I really like Cassie as a name on its own. I don’t like surnames as first names personally.

SummaLuvin · 01/02/2022 17:29

Obviously, Immy might still happen, but if you are prepared to take the risk and use alternative nn, I know an Imogen who goes by Momo.

Cassidy does make me think surname at first, but it also works very well as a first name - like Taylor or James.

Namenamenames · 01/02/2022 17:32

Great name choices - I have one of each! My Cassie is Catherine on the birth certificate, so that’s another option.

miltonj · 01/02/2022 17:37

Yep, I really like it.

Shadappayourface · 01/02/2022 17:39

I don't think of Cassidy as a surname and I think it's a nice name for a girl!

MysticCT · 01/02/2022 17:46

I think it's lovely and I think some surnames are suitable as a first name.

Potatosaladfiend · 01/02/2022 17:47

It is lovely, but it does immediately make me think of the rapper, who killed people, so not so fantastic.

NewbieDivergent · 01/02/2022 17:50

My Dd's middle name,I was going to use it as first name but at birth decided another suited her better,it goes lovely with her first name and coincidentally one of her friends since playgroup is Cassidy.

SirChenjins · 01/02/2022 17:53

Cassie is lovely, Cassidy less so imo - unless you like male sounding first names or surnames (eg Butch Cassidy)

Luredbyapomegranate · 01/02/2022 18:59

Cassie is a nice nn

Cassia I think is a lovely full name
Calista and Cassandra are nice too, and it is sometimes used as a short form of Catherine also.

Cassidy.. no - it's got naff American vibes like Madison

Meandthesky · 01/02/2022 19:58

I like Cassie but not a fan of Cassidy, prefer Cassandra

StopForAMinute · 01/02/2022 20:17

Cassidy is lovely. I really like it.

DramaAlpaca · 02/02/2022 00:40

Sorry, I'm on the side of it being awful. I'm in Ireland and to me it's just another common or garden Irish surname being appropriated as a first name. Just because it could be used as a longer form of a nice girls' name like Cassie doesn't mean that it should be.

Kanaloa · 02/02/2022 03:29

It’s nice, and works as a longer name for for Cassie. I don’t think Catherine really shortens to Cassie naturally, the natural shortening of Catherine is Katie/Cathy. Same with Calista, the shortening of that would really be Callie, and if the name you like is Cassie I wouldn’t bother trying to squeeze it out of Catherine/Calista/basically any name with C in it.

Cassandra is also a fine name.

GrannyBattleaxe · 02/02/2022 04:12

@Luredbyapomegranate I have a Cassia, I think it's a beautiful name!

Op, I like Cassidy, and you never know how how shortening or nicknames will go. I have a name that has a traditional shortening (think Victoria to Vicky) but even as a young child I hated that and got irate at people being rude and shortening/changing my actual name without permission 😁. My Cassia never shortens her name to Cass or Cassie, that's her choice.

Charley50 · 02/02/2022 05:24

Love it. And Cassie.

Flutterflybutterby · 02/02/2022 07:14

I would have assumed Cassidy was a boy. If you want nickname Cassie, I'd go for the beautiful and classy Cassia 😍

Imogen and Cassia are both equally gorgeous. Cassidy is probably a bit of a marmite name.

This. And definitely also to the naff Madison, Carter, Emerson, Mckenna, Cooper, Bradley etc surname-as-first name vibe.
