Is it awful? I don't actually know what I'm having yet, I have a feeling it'll be another boy but can't help day dream of girl names.

I've always loved Imogen, but I hate Immy and I know it'll happen.

I love Cassidy, and I love Cassie which is the inevitable shortening most people will make.

Is it a bit too surnamey?

For me it's OK. I prefer Cassia.

Buttercup54321 · 02/02/2022 22:02

Awful.
1970s singer David Cassidy.

JeremyWadesBigRod · 02/02/2022 23:18

I love it. It sounds young, fresh and cool.
Cassandra sounds bloody awful and a bit Delboy.

I like Imogen but it's a bit ordinary.

Lalliella · 02/02/2022 23:52

Cassie is really pretty. Cassidy is awful, it’s a surname. Butch Cassidy. David Cassidy.

Cassandra shortened to Cassie would be much nicer imo.

clpsmum · 02/02/2022 23:59

Cassidy has been a favourite of mine since I was about thirteen. It's lovely

Olga03 · 03/02/2022 15:03

I like it. Doesn't give me surname as a guest name vibes. However I personally prefer Cassia (loving it!).

Fivebeanchilli · 03/02/2022 15:18

I dislike it personally though I love Cassie as a nn for Cassia or Calista or even Clarissa.
I have met two baby Cassidys in the past 3 years and both were boys though I was surprised as previously the ones I've met have been girls.

InisnaBro · 03/02/2022 15:42

It's like calling your child Brady, Boyle or Murphy.

ashko · 03/02/2022 16:09

I have a Cassia so obviously I prefer that and it's less marmite but I do also like the name Cassidy. It sounds nice to me but that's because I don't put other associations to it. I would say to consider Cassia, or Cassie if you prefer an ee ending sound.

StrawberryFever · 03/02/2022 16:13

Love it.

Do also like Cassia, but whilst I like Cassie as a nickname I wouldn't use it as her given name - it sounds too much like a nickname.

@DramaAlpaca

Sorry, I'm on the side of it being awful. I'm in Ireland and to me it's just another common or garden Irish surname being appropriated as a first name. Just because it could be used as a longer form of a nice girls' name like Cassie doesn't mean that it should be.
Yes this exactly.

It’s an Irish surname. Personally sick of English people slagging off actual Irish first names on the basis that they’re too hard to spell and/or pronounce then shamelessly appropriating Irish surnames for their kids.

If you want to call her Cassie, call her Cassie, or an actual first name that can be shortened to Cassie, like Cassandra.
