Clarence House

ancientgran · 30/01/2022 09:45

I did it again, Cross-Eyed. I need coffee.

Ginandplatonic · 30/01/2022 09:49

It’s in the same vein as the other “old man” names like Arthur, Stanley, Sidney etc, but less used. I think it’s perfectly useable for that reason, and really like Clarry as a nickname.

sweetbellyhigh · 30/01/2022 09:52

Quite gorgeous

Ginandplatonic · 30/01/2022 09:54

Clarence House

Victoria Station, St James’s Park, Charlotte St etc etc. So what?

Lockdownbear · 30/01/2022 10:00

@Ginandplatonic

Clarence House

Victoria Station, St James’s Park, Charlotte St etc etc. So what?

It's the only place I can actually think of the name in use. And it's a Royal House rather than a person.

Victoria, James and Charlotte are all fairly common names even if they are Royal names. Totally different.

Lesserspottedmama · 30/01/2022 10:02

Oh I really like it! It’ll get trashed on here though where people only like Charlie, Joshua, Oliver etc.

Elderflower14 · 30/01/2022 10:05

Nice name. Straight away thought of the programme Clarence with Ronnie Barker on it about a myopic removal man..

Clarence?
SeanChailleach · 30/01/2022 11:13

I've met a few black British men/boys called Clarence - is there a reason for that?

SeanChailleach · 30/01/2022 11:20

Here you go Clarence Thomas, first African American justice, so he is an important namesake.

SeanChailleach · 30/01/2022 11:23

Oh okay second African American justice to serve on the Supreme Court. First was Thurgood Marshall, which is also a great name.

Blubells · 30/01/2022 13:06

I much prefer Clarence to Laurence.

whattodo2019 · 30/01/2022 13:14

No!!! It's such a weak name

TrashyPanda · 30/01/2022 13:20

Please, no!

It’s such a wet name.

Flywheel · 30/01/2022 13:32

Clarence Beeks!

Cheesechips · 30/01/2022 16:01

Weak and nerdy

Alonelonelylonersbadidea · 30/01/2022 16:12

It's better than Roger. That's all.

mugoftea456 · 30/01/2022 16:16

@HamCob

There's a popular American kids cartoon on Netflix called Clarence. Reminds me of that now unfortunately.
This was my first thought also
WingingItSince1973 · 30/01/2022 16:20

@Puffflashpuffflashbang

Deliverance - Clarence 💯 lives in a trailer and plays the banjo, and is married to his sister.
🤣🤣🤣
orinocosfavoritecake · 30/01/2022 16:21

Really wouldn’t name a kid after Clarence Thomas.

Or Clarence, Earl of Emsworth.

It’s a beautiful name but maybe more suited to a cat.

Thedogscollar · 30/01/2022 16:40

Sorry it's not a name I'd want to be given or give.

cheapskatemum · 30/01/2022 19:21

Clarence the cross eyed lion was indeed in Daktari. Great theme tune! To be honest though, that was 50 odd years ago. I think the name is due a revival and I love the short forms PPs are suggesting: Cal, Clarrie and Clancy. I say go for it.
